Hi all,

My sister lost her job and has to miss some of her DVC payments. Last Christmas (when she still had her 150K/year job), she used some of her points to make a ressie in July for our other sister as a Christmas gift. Now, sister #1 is worried sick that sister #2's ressie is going to be cancelled, but sister #1 doesn't have the heart to tell her and my nephews they cannot go to WDW. Does anyone know how far Disney will let you get behind? She says her dues are up to date, but the loan payments aren't. Also, if Disney is going to cancel the ressie, would she find out before they travel to WDW? The reservation is for 5 weeks from now, and it is still showing up as booked.

Thanks!

Your sister needs to call Member Accounting asap. It will be very unpleasant if your other sister arrives at the resort with her family and is denied check in. She will need to make arrangements, as I understand they will not allow check in on outstanding accounts' ressies.

Good advice to call. My understanding (which may be incomplete and/or out of date) is that existing reservations do not get cancelled until the account is 90 days past due.

Sorry about yourr sister's job loss. Hope she finds something even better very soon.

There's a lesson here - don't buy dvc if you have to finance it!! My motto was buy what I could afford, and that's why I have so many contracts. I can't imagine someone making $150k having to finance it!

Your sis definitely needs to call dvc right now...asking us does NO good whatsoever. If she feels bad about telling her sister & nephew no trip, won't she feel a lot worse after they shell out money to fly down there??? If I was the other sis I don't think I would forgive dvc sis if she did that! That shows no respect for the sis/nephew.

:) I think OP feels bad enough without adding guilt to it. Bad circumstances could happen to anyone at anytime. After Katrina we thanked God we had flood Insurance but so many did not. All of the premiums we paid for Home Owners was for nothing becasue they did not pay a dime. Folks down here did not make stupid or bad decisions it was just a horrible natural diaster that no one expected. After Katrina we kept our flood insurance and added a Volcano and Earthquake rider (not kidding). I mean catastrophic illness could strike any one at any time and we might have to sell several things to make ends meet.

Your sister needs to call ASAP. I'm sorry your sister lost her job, I hope things pick up for her soon:hug:

If the monthly payments are not too much, it might be worth it for sister #2 to make the payments .... depending on how much they are of course. That way, they can still have their vacation and "buy" a lttle more time with the DVC. Hopefully, sister #1 will find a new job soon.
