Resrebating over use year

I'm new to DVC. My use year is Dec 1. If I want to make a reservation beginning Nov 30 - do I bank or not bank? Does it go by check in date or whole trip? Thanks for your help!

With a December Use Year, your points can be used from December 1 through November 30 the following calendar year - but cannot be used for any date after November 30 unless they have been banked.

For example - any points not used for a reservation between December 1, 2012 and November 30, 2013 will expire at midnight November 30, 2013 unless banked. All reservations are based on the date for each night of the stay - not just the arrival date. MS and online booking won't allow you to make the reservation without either banking the points or borrowing from the next Use Year, so you can't use the points beyond 11/30 without banking them anyway (or borrowing from the following year).

With a December UY be mindful that vacations in August - November won't give you the option to bank should you have to cancel your vacation for any reason.

Each night is individual. For this year, Nov 30 would be in your 2011 use year, Dec 1 and after would be in your 2012 use year.

With a December UY be mindful that vacations in August - November won't give you the option to bank should you have to cancel your vacation for any reason.

If you cancel 8/1 or after. If you cancel before 8/1, you could bank current year points.

Trips are based on the UY that they take place and each night is treated on its own.

With a Dec UY, and a trip started November 30th, you will cross your UY so what you can use for November 30th will be different than the rest of the trip.

So, if you want to stay November 30th, 2012, that will take place in your Dec 2011 UY--you can used banked 2010 UY points, 2011 UY points, and borrowed 2012 UY points to pay for that one night. Any bankable points you have in your account now would be 2011 UY points and would not have to be banked for this ONE night.

The rest of your trip, starting Dec 1, 2012, will take place in your 2012 UY. You will be able to use banked 2011 UY points, 2012 UY points, and borrow 2013 UY points for these nights.

So, if you have 2011 UY points that you want to use for these nights, then yes, you will have to bank them, before you make the reservation.
