Resort Storing Medication

We will be arriving at AoA early in the morning - probably around 8-9. I know that we most likely will not have access to our room until mid-afternoon. My oldest dd has medication (injections) that need to stay refrigerated. Will the resort be able to keep that medication refrigerated until our room is ready? If not, can we take it to first aid at Epcot and have them hold it for us?

Insulin?

The resort will have an area where you may store luggage. I would suggest getting a cooler and filling it with ice and storing it there. I doubt there is anyone at the park that will officially take responsibility for caring for your meds but if it is insulin it should be fine as long as its in a cooler. In the desert we would keep insulin like this all day. wrap the meds in a small towel then put the bundle in a ziplock bag to keep it from getting too cold. Insulin doesnt care much if it gets cold but certain live vaccines do (prolly not an issue).

If you ask at the front desk they may be able to hold it and first aid in any of the parks can hold your meds and keep them cool for you.

It is not insulin, it's called Octreotide Acetate. According to the label it must remain refrigerated.

You can take it to any First Aid and have it stored. I would not give it to the bellhops and depend on them to refrigerate it. I lost my meds at Pop one time when we did that. They took them to a different room. WE fortunately got them back but it took a few hours of unneeded worry and frustration

The concierge at POFQ stored my insulin in their fridge when our room wouldn't be ready for a few hours.

Wow, I am happy to be wrong in this case. I know the guys at POR have gone out of their way for us any number of times but I would not have considered this.

Specific to Octreotide Acetate, it's a formulation of an amino-acid chain, it's organic. It resembles a typical hormone like insulin.

The NIH database says that it is stable at room temperature for at least 14 days. So you may want to check with your doctor to see how big of an issue that is.

The bell desk at AKV stored some medication for me. I had it in an insulated bag with an ice pack in it and my name and that it was medication clearly labeled on it. It was no problem and I felt much better giving it to them then taking my chances with an insulated bag in hot sun, especially when I explained what it was.

We have stored meds at the resort. We checked out and went to the park before it was time to leave. If there is a chance taht you may need the medication whole you are in the park you can ( like others have said) take it to first aid at the park you are visiting and they will place it in refrigeration for you. When we have left medications with the first aid stations we always set an alarm on our cell phone to remind us to pick them up before we leave the park. They also provide private areas if you need to inject while in the park.

She does have a insulated medicine container with a ice pack but I don't know how frozen that will get in the AoA fridge. Since she's only been using this for the last 4 months we haven't had to deal with it on vacation. The med also causes her sugar levels to drop so she has to test that 30 minutes after each injection. Are there places in the parks for sharps disposal.

I am in WDW now, and I have seen sharps containers in pretty much every restroom. It shouldn't be a problem at all!

Agree with pp, they are easy to come by. They should be in the rest rooms, but you can always find one in the first aid station as well. You can also call house keeping and have one placed in your room.

Check with the Pharmacist or check the package insert if you were given one.
It sounds like this is probably one of the medications that needs to be refrigerated for prolonged storage (for example, if you have an unopened bottle that you are not using yet) , but the in use bottle can be stored at room temperature for up to 15 days.

You might want to check into a Frio pack, which many diabetics use to keep their insulin cool.

As other posters mentioned, First Aid can refrigerate and store medication for you, you can get needleboxes from Housekeeping at your resort and there are needle boxes in all restrooms (at least all I have seen in trips last Fall and this past Speing)
