They don't want weapons in the room -that's what it stopped.
Except the weapon was found by bell service while delivering bags to the rooms. Not with a room check.
Personally, if it prevents even one more tragedy like the Las Vegas shooting, it's worth it to me.
I get your sentiment but a better use would be putting in check points at the resort or better yet a full room sweep randomly where they search all your bags and locations in the room. A Vegas style shooter can easily bypass the current room check if they were planning something.
What they are doing right now does nothing really but help cover their liability if something happens. Which is why I asked if this type of check had caught anyone anywhere let alone at Disney.
