I'm curious to know who decides on when the resort will need to be refurbished.

I think WLV needs a little TLC and I'm wondering if that's going to happen anytime soon.

Well, OKW just got their first refurbishment and OKW is about seven years older than VWL. We pay for the refurbishment.

Yeah that's why I'm curious because I think BWV were refurbished before OKW and they were built after.

I have no idea how they decide, as I was surprised that SSR and BWV got one before VWL.

SSR was promoted as a soft goods refurb which happened at VWL 2-3 years ago. IMO it didn't sound much different but just got publicized to say - hey....look at what we're doing at SSR for you DVC members!

In addition BWV got new appliances but SSR already had newer styles because it was built more recently, or so I've been told here.

If VWL got the soft goods upgrade what did the decor used to look like, I thought what was there now, is what was always there :confused3

Ah I didn't realise you got different types of refurb. So are there many more categories above 'soft goods' upgrades?

Resorts tend to alternate a soft refurbishment with a hard refurbishment. MOST resorts have a schedule, usually having one or the other every 5-7 years alternating. Generally the better resorts long term are at closer to 5 years and the lessor ones at 7. I've never seen or heard of an actual schedule with DVC and that's a shame. If you wait until you know you need it, the resorts will suffer greatly toward the end of the cycle and I think we saw that with OKW and BWV. I do know of 1 resort that does a more involved refurbishment every 4 years but instead of building reserves to pay for it as most do, they charge maint fees separate and simply bill the owners for the cost of the refurbishment as a special assessment.

I think OKW may have had some refurbishments before. I remember being there in the early 2000's and buildings were getting painted. I also think there were some appliances switched out. It just wasn't an "all at once" refurb.

They didn't do a lot of changes as has been typical of the majority of the soft refurbs (has anybody really gotten a soft goods upgrade? ie - I don't think SSR got an upgrade either but they changed the theme a bit).

But - VWL did get a couple of changes. The black and white check chair in the living rooms:

Changed to this blue/maroon plaid:

And the TV cabinet dresser in the bedrooms changed from:

Of the 3 resorts we stayed at in June... my parents LOVED VWL the most. They said it was the comfiest sofa off all three. I hope they don't go changing it too soon...maybe since it's nice and broken in is why it's so comfy? The new sofa at SSR was AWFUL.

How interesting!
I agree that as an owner being able to see a schedule would be nice. At least a schedule for some sort of review.

I guess the difference was that SSR got different instead of just new. Thanks for the photos, I liked the black plaid chair better. I love the new rooms at the Lodge, wish they would do something similar for the villas.
