Resort Pool Question

I know that the old policy used to be that you can swim at any Disney Resort pool as long as you are staying at a Disney Resort Hotel. Is this still true? I want to take my best bud to swim in Stormalong Bay but we're staying at Coronado (great pool there too)

They also check id's. At one time they were issuing wrist bands. I'm not sure if they're still doing that.

Just wondering who is checking Id's? Every August when my family visits WDW we check out the resort we plan to stay in the following year. This includes, of course, a preview of the pool. There has never been a problem. Will we be unable to do this?
Also, Every time we visit a different resort the guard at the gate just waves us through because we have a rersort parking pass. Has this changed as well due to security constraints?
Thanks in Advance !!

You can look at a different pool, you just can't swim there.
When we joined DVC in early 1993, one of our "perks" that was not available to general resort guests, was pool hopping. So I know that pool hopping has not been allowed for resort guest since DVC began selling in 1992. There are a few exceptions:
- you can pool hop to a "sister" resort of the one you are staying in (like ASM to AS Sports or the PO resorts can hop from one to the other)
- if your resort pool is closed for renovation -like Contmeporary's was recently, you will be allowed to pool hop.

Even DVC members are not allowed to pool hop to Stormalong Bay any more. That pool is limited to guests of the Yacht & Beach Club and BC villas.

We have stayed at the Yacht Club several times. Management didn't use to be picky about who swam in SAB, but that has changed. We were there last year, and someone checked our id's every day but one. And they didn't just check one family member's, they asked to see everyone's.

Once while visiting Boardwalk, we decided to walk around the loop over to YC/BC...when we got their, my son wanted to see StormalongBay, so I took him in to show him their pool...while there, a CM asked to see our Resort ID. I explained to her that we were not guests of YC/BC, rather we were staying at WL and my son had wanted to see the pool. She was fine with it, but after that I felt like all eyes were on us...We left shortly after and continued around back to Boardwalk...

Sue, thanks for that DVC heads up...I had no idea that DVC'ers couldn't use SAB anymore...

Last year they were checking our resort parking pass at every place we went. I have also been staying at the BC and have had our resort ID checked each time we went to the pool. This was before 9/11/01. In April they were checking our parking pass and they even checked at the hotel we were at as we came and went thru the gate.

If you think about it, it's only fair that resort guests can use a particular resort's pool. People staying at the Y&B Club are paying big bucks for deluxe accomadations. Stormalong Bay would be a "free" water park if they didn't enforce this. We ate at Beaches&Cream in Jan and got a look at Stormalong Bay. There was a fence erected all the way around it, which leads me to believe that they do indeed restrict access.
Seeing the pool area really makes me want to stay there!

You are only allowed to use the pool at your resort or a "sister" resort if one is attached (like the All-Stars or the two sections of Port Orleans).

In the past, people have managed to sneak into different pools. I would give up the idea of trying that at SAB. With the opening of the BCV, they are cracking down on use of the pool to prevent overcrowding. You must show your ID and be issued a wristband to use the pool area. They are even asking to see IDs from people dressed in street clothes who just want to look at the pool.

It seems that things have changed since last August, when my family swam at Storm Along Bay with out question. I also do not recaLL a fence there, either. How new is that?
I have also never been asked for an ID at any of the pools.
I guess I've learned something that could save my family valuable time and certain disappointment, if we were turned away at a pool. Thank You!!
