Resort mugs, how much for your $$?

I've heard a lot about resort mugs, how much do they cost? And how big are they? About how many ounces? I'm trying to find out if we'll need one or two.

They are sometimes available in two sizes. There is a normal big mug like I prefer and a smaller coffee-type mug.

Depending on how often you plan to eat at the food court and spend around the pool, they're a great savings. This topic has been written to death and the newer mugs have a tag on them that says "Good for use during this stay only" or something like that but we bought mugs about six years ago and I take them with me every time we stay at DxL. I've had cashiers say, as I'm paying for my food, "you know that mug is good for as long as you own it". We stay onsite a couple times per year and I'm sure that what we paid for the mug has probably just about covered the actual cost of the coffee and soda we've consumed.....not retail but wholesale.

I have the smaller sized mug ( the one that fits in a cup holder) and I was told that they both mugs hold the same amount. My cup is 16 oz.

Maybe someone with the bigger looking mug could measure and let us know?

I've got the fatter type mugs. It holds exactly 16 oz (to the very top without the lid & with no ice! I am surprised it holds that much, we normally refilled a couple of times during each meal. We saw some older mugs but not a lot. I asked two CM and they said they are good for that stay only. They also have it posted everywhere in the food court at Pop and in the rooms as well. They cost $11.99 each.

I've heard that the new mugs coming out will have bar codes. You will have to scan them to use them and they will only be good for your stay. Any truth to this?

I've heard that as well.

That will never fly. People come in and out and never go to the counters. I have gone in many times and not bought anything else. Don't count on it.

At Blizzard Beach in April, there was a scan code sticker on our mug that said "Wednesday". You had to scan at the Coke machine to get it to operate. Not sure if that is what they will put at the resorts. No cashiers involved at all.

I was at All-Star Movies Sept 18-26 and I saw no stickers on the mugs.

I also saw plenty of older style mugs and no one seemed to care. I saw no signs that said "good for one trip" or say anything like that.

I am surprised that both mugs hold the same amount. the smaller ones are much easier to deal with as they fit in the cup holder.

We love using the resort mugs. My kids think that is part of the Disney fun. Everynight they get hot chocolate (no matter how hot the weather) before we go to bed. I consider the mugs one of the few Disney bargains!!

A sign near the soda machines says that the mugs are good for the duration of the visit during which they were purchased ONLY! No more lifetime of free sodas.

We stayed at ASMo last year and there was also a sign in our room. Little fold up kind of sign. This year at Pop there was also one in the room and a giant sign at the soda island.

We just consider the mugs as a souvenir from our stays. We do use them for drinks while we are there then when we get home we have them as reminders of the different resorts we've stayed at.
