Is touring the resorts something that is allowed?
We’ve never been to DL and I would love to check out all the resorts.
If it is allowed, are they all close enough to walk from one to the next?
Thanks!

By resorts, do you mean the onsite hotels. If so, yes, you can walk through the hotels and they are all walking distance from each other. Although, there really isn’t anything to see at Paradise Pier.

if you mean staying at the different hotels, I would just stay at the Grand Californian and walk over to the Disneyland Hotel to experience everything there. It's a five minute walk. Pixar Pier Hotel can be skipped, nothing to do or see over there.

Everything at DLR is close enough to walk. That is one of the things that is great about going to DLR.

Disneyland Hotel is at one end of Downtown Disney. From there you basically walk from one end of Downtown Disney to the other and you are at the parks. You pass the Grand Californian on your way. When you get to the parks coming from that direction, you turn right for CA and left for DL which are separated by a plaza about the length of a football field (you come in around the center point between the two parks). We've never ventured over to Paradise Pier Hotel, but from what I remember it basically it is kind of between Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Californian, just back behind them and across a street. I feel like it would be about a 5 minute walk from either of the other hotels, if that. Unlike WDW where it often takes an hour or more to travel between parks or hotels, you can get pretty much anywhere at DLR in 15 minutes or under.

Thanks all!
I’m excited to finally see the west coast. Never been father west then Houston.
And especially excited to DL!
Hopefully while DS is living in San Diego we can visit DL multiple times.

On my last visit, which was pre-pandemic, we stayed in Paradise Pier and had a meal at Grand Californian. It was a short walk and no one stopped us from entering or exploring the shops in Grand Californian. I am not sure what the policy is for pools, but if you are interested in eating or shopping you are totally fine.

I think the policy is that you can only use the pool of the resort in which you are staying, unless your resort's pool is closed for remodeling.

Trader Sam's at DLH is the boss. You should check that out. Plus, DLH (near the convention center) has an Autopia car in the hall that you can sit in and take pictures. My family enjoyed our stay at DLH. We had a DTD view in the Adventure Tower. DLH feels, to me, like a true old-school Disney deluxe hotel on par with the CR or POLY. Some people do not enjoy that 1970s style deluxe hotel layout and room type, but I do.

My DW and I are typically WDW guests, and we loved DLR. I hope you do too. I really think you will like it. We want to return because it was so fun being at an intimate park with a lot of history. I found many of the attraction versions at DLR to be better than WDW, but that's really subjective from guest to guest. The CMs inside DLH and around the parks were great. Felt safe. Loved the security set-up at DLR and that you had to do security at the ends of DTD and then there was no security in front of the park tapstiles.

I will say this and I have never had anyone fire back at me with a challenge, but the CMs costumes at DLR are far, far superior than WDW. INDY, SOARIN, DCC, ST, Main Street Transportation/RR, SM, BTMRR are all super awesome costumes. I don't know if DLR invests more or that its just LA sheik or what but the CMs look more put together at DLR? WDW needs to step-it-up for its CMs.

If we go back, we may try to do a split stay with DLH and GCH. There is no doubt that GCH's proximity to the parks gives it a major plus advantage. Plus, its nice inside the lobby and common areas. We walked through those areas but not a room. Personally, I like WL better. But, GCH is nice looking and I'm sure it's a fine hotel. The price is bonkers. But that's true with all things Disney it seems.
