Resort for One Night ??

We are going to WDW early Dec. We are leaving on a Sunday. We have ressie's at CR on Monday night. We weren't sure if we could make the drive in one day with our kids being so young. We may stop somewhere on the way. But, if we can make it the whole way, I was wondering has anyone every went to a on site resort and try to get a room without a ressie. I was thinking of trying POP for that one night, just to try something different. Or should we stay right outside of gates? Or should we call before we get there? I definately did not want any Allstars as this is when Pop Warner will be there. We are planning on going to DTD and sightseeing on Monday. Just curious if anyone has ever done this and if it is a problem?

We have done this to add onto the end of our trip. We went to ASM for one night after staying at OKW for a week. It worked out fine, but it was in early November which isn't the most popular season. I think you should be fine.
