We are headed to DL in just a few weeks. Having used Magical Express at WDW many, many times, am kind of nervous about the Resort Express at DL. Can someone that has used it tell me how it works and how your experience was?

We did the Magic Express at World. But it is much easier to get around with a cab for about the same cost. The cabs will do a flat rate to and from the resort.(Last time we went, it was about $40 for our group of 5) In ouir opinion, that is the easiest mode of transportation. Since the hotels in the area are not as spread out as World, the cabs will get you to your hotel faster than the Express which will make multiple stops

We've used it in the past.

First off, I think the one at WDW is free if you stay on property. This isn't true of the one at DL.

I think that some, if not all of the shuttle services are cheaper.

But that being said, it got us where we were going, we didn't need to bring car seats for my littles because it is a bus and has no seatbelts, and it was fairly quick. Just one or two stops. (Edited to add: It looks like we lucked out. They can do many many stops depending on who is going where)

The way it works is that you arrive at the airport and get your luggage (DL doesn't do the luggage delivery thing either) and there is a pickup spot (maybe two?) and you wait. You don't need to have reserved beforehand. Then you tell the driver where you are going and thats it.

It's quite easy - in that respect not that different than FL except you have to pay for it. You don't say where you're staying but the DLH is a transfer hub if you're not staying there. You might be asked to transfer to a different bus for the ride back to the airport or even from the airport. It's the luck of the draw for that - I'd say I've had to 1/2 of the time and the other 1/2 other people have joined us on the bus for the ride to our final destination.

FYI - There are coupons available for discounts if you haven't located some yet. And the other shuttle services work well also but you may circle LAX for awhile if they are looking to fill up the van. Again - luck of the draw.

We have used it and a couple of shuttle services (Supershuttle and the red one). We prefer the Express over them now. I think because it is a bus. but you are not as packed in, the driver does not drive around and around picking up enough passengers to stuff it (we drove around LAX 4 times..passing where we got on 4 times to get a full van). In fact once, we had the whole bus to ourselves. Also, last time we took the blue shuttle, the driver scared the crap out of me on the drive out of the airport.

That being said, I have not tried a cab and one of these times we might try that.

Every time we have used the Express, we tell the driver when he stores our luggage what hotel we are staying at. Then he stopped at a few hotels (Sheraton, then CGH and DH and one other stop on Harbor Blvd) and we were at our hotel. Pick up, we walked down to the closest ART stop and waited about 20 mins (which was good because DH forgot the vouchers that I had handed him 5 mins before we left). When the bus arrived (mind you, a lot of odd vans will pull up claim to be the Disney Express and are not), we told the driver which airline (since we were flying into LAX) as he loaded our bags into the storage and that was it.

The drivers have always been very nice and funny.

Just in case you didn't know.... Despite the name, Disneyland Resort Express is not owned/run by Disney. It is owned by Gray Line Bus Company. I wasn't sure if that would make a difference for you or not. We have used them and liked them, but since it is not free, you have other options that you will also have to pay for that you might want to consider. :)
