Resort Discounts After August 14th

I have read that all discounts are up to 8/14. After 8/14, is that considered a slow time at Disney. Do the discounts get better or worse. I thought I saw free dining last year at this time. Is that to be expected this year.
Any help to plan a trip in late August would be appreciated.

last year we went the last week of august because the dvc points bump down a little after aug 16 (this year) then get really low after sept 1
i do believe free dining always starts in late aug and goes into sept. not sure of exact dates this year but if you do free dining, you won't get a discount on the hotel room.
however if you want to rent dvc points, it'll take less points for your stay after aug 16 thereby making it cheaper.
by the way, even though we were there during free dining, i didn't think the parks were terribly crowded. honestly is there ever a time that disney is dead?
