I thought ya'll might be interested in the new policy.

"We have been instructed at the Reservation Center that ALL the Resorts will no longer accept any room request faxed to them. If you try to call the resort directly before you check-in, the switchboard is instructed to redirect your call to the reservation center, not the front desk.
The best time to make requests for specific rooms, buildings, bedding (ie a king bed), smoking or non-smoking, ground-floor, connecting rooms, etc... is when you first book the reservation or as early as possible after your reservation is made. Every request that is noted on a reservation is now time stamped with the date the request is made."

That's a bummer 'cause faxes always seemed to work for me.

As for noting on the reservation - also a bummer 'cause not all requests apparently show on the copies I receive, or the CM's aren't really putting them in when they say they are. Either way, I have no way of verifying or proving that my requests were noted in the reservation :(

I agree with this. All requests need to be shown on the reservation. Otherwise we are totally at the mercy of whoever is at the desk when we check in. Last visit I had all but one request granted but these were medical needs requests. One medical need request was ignored though.

I think faxes had gotten out of control. People were faxing hundreds of pages a day and overwhelming the CMs trying to do the room request.

And then there is the whole "request" idea. I have seen guest CUSS at CMs becasue they didn't get the room/view of thier choice. Folks seem to have forgotten the differnece between request and gurantee! I do think you should be guranteed Medical needs, but all else is just a request.

I totally agree with CarolA, way out of hand and people griping they didn't get what they wanted. Try these requests at other vacation spots!

Another situation where the demands and excesses of some affected everyone. The resorts were literally overwhelmed. Hundreds of pages of faxes coming in with some faxes being pages long including photos. Everyone celebrating some special occassion. Everyone wanting the "dream" vacation for thier special princess. It just got out of hand.

Many thought because they sent a fax that it was a guarantee they would get what they wanted.

I am glad to see the change.

I don't mind that they changed it 'cause I'm sure they were overwhelmed with requests. I'm just saying that when I request bunkbeds (because my two young children will NOT sleep together) I'd like to see it printed on my confirmation. Even if it IS just a request I'd like to know it's actually there. So do away with faxes but please print ALL requests on the confirmation.

Yeah I'm sure people will go overboard and mess that up too. I usually will have about 3 requests: N/S due to medical reasons, a bedding type request, and a general location request. I don't think it's too much to ask that all 3 print out. Usually just the guaranteed N/S request shows.

lol... I just faxed my room request to the Polynesian this morning :rotfl2: Of course, my requests are noted on my reservation, too, so its no big deal. The worst thing they can do is throw the fax away and I'm no worse off. Oh well.

I agree that the faxes probably got out of hand! Something that I always noticed on the boards here, people that would post "What should I request on my fax?" Well, if something isn't important enough that you already know it (non-smoking, king bed, bunk bed... etc..) then why should it matter? And I have also seen people on these boards actually requesting a specific room because they heard it was a great room.. heck, I would get frustrated too if I was a CM at the resort.

I have never thought of faxing any request - I have a check list everytime I book a ressie and have never had any problems.

Guess the check list always has worked for me.

My requests are easy. Wheelchair accessible room with tub ( must have full grab bars), frig for meds, amplified phone or tty, close to food court and bus stop, and if I am not accompanied by family first floor as I cannot go down stairs without help(in case of emergency) Last one is least important because if it really comes down to an emergency I would bootie bop down those stairs if I have to to get out.
I am willing to pay the extra for the close building.

I've never really understood all the requesting (beyond smoking/non-smoking and medical or accessability issues).

When you book, you designate the room type/view you want and pay based on that. That's what the resort has agreed to give you- a room at a specified resort in a specific rate category. They're usually very good about honoring the smoking/non-smoking requests.

Beyond that, does it really matter that you're in building A vs. building B, or that you're on the 3rd floor or the 4th?

Especially during high occupancy times (and it seems like the resorts are pretty full year round these days), being very specific in your requests seems to add a lot of time to the front desk CM's job. Does it *really* add to the enjoyment of your vacation?

Just something I've never really understood. :confused3

Kathy, I never understand why some people make the most detailed requests and then are upset when they don't get it.

The same thing for upgrades. Some people want upgraded to concierge for nothing.

We are too busy having a magical vacation to worry about the requests.

Well said.

I am just always happy to get into a specific resort if I request it - If one isn't available, I take the next one that is suggested and that is available. Don't care which floor it is on.

This is due to the way the reservation system/program is set up... Some of the more common rqsts are preset in the system and print up on the confirmation you get. Ex. Non Smoking Room rqsted not gtd, or Ground Floor Request- Not Gtd.

Other more detailed requests have to be manually typed in the "internal" notes on the reservation that only the cast members see...

Trust that your requests are noted, but also understand that theres only so much the CMs can do.... I know of people who have had a list of like 25 different rooms that she felt were acceptable and wanted all 25 room numbers requested on her reservation!

Please make the CMs life easy, as well as your expectations attainable. Ask for what you really need.. Non Smoking room cuz you have asthma, but not "water view, main building, close to pool, but not too close, and away from the elevators and ice machine, cuz thats noisy, and 5 yrs ago we stayed in room 56 something, can you see where we stayed? oh and dont forget we must have the MK View, and if you can rqst an upgrade that would be great..." ;)

Thanks for the inside scoop, Segue2Life and WELCOME TO THE DISBOARDS!!!

Welcome! :wizard:

I think ya can say it til your blue in the face but as you may already know...it doesn't seem to make a difference! :earseek:

I have a serious question...when people "request" a specific room #...do CM's fall on the ground laughing??? Does requesting specific room #'s make any difference at all??? I bet if guests knew it was one in a million...scratch that...some would believe they would be THAT one in a million! :teeth:

Just wanted to mention that we have always noted our requests on the reservation and thats all. We never called or faxed our requests after booking and we have always gotten all of our requests-even in the busy summer months. We find that checking in early and being very friendly helps us get our room choice.

Hi all...

Also remember that requests are just that, requests. There are certain things that can be honored due to medical situations, but please be flexible and as someone said realistic.

Certain room types, views... canot be requested, but are they type of room that you are paying for. In most cases room view/location is not gtd.
