i thought I read that some hotelsare now bypassing check in and you can go straight to the parks. Is that true?

Yes if you do the check in online you will get a text with your room number and location, when your room is ready.

Only if you live in the U.S. They won't text non US phones. They will send you an email that may come hours after your room is ready. Last time I finally received the room ready email 3 hrs after we were in the room.

You still have the option of doing regular check-in upon arrival though. You have the option of doing online check-in and you give your arrival time. If you live in the US, and you give your phone number for a text, you'll get a text.

I did online check-in for my November trip last year. As soon as my plane landed, I received a text saying my room was not quite ready yet. Before I was even on Magical Express, I got another text saying my room was ready, with my room number and that I could go straight to my room when I arrive. It was great. I arrived in the morning, so I was not expecting my room to be ready early.

That's not 100% accurate. Not everyone that does online check in will get to Bypass The Front Desk. As of now, some will still have to physically check in even if they have done Online Check In. How they decide who gets to Bypass The Front Desk is anyone's guess.

Quite right. Instead of a text with room info, I got a text saying I had to stop by the front desk. I didn't mind, and it was quick and easy, but there was no apparent reason for it. Just the luck of the draw!

You are correct. We had this happen to us in October, but not in December. However we took the DME in October and just as we landed we got the first text and the second while we were in baggage claim. But the question on this thread was if it was true or not so I didn't give additional info.

If you do want to try to bypass the front desk, make sure that you have your credit card for purchases during your stay confirmed on the MDE website. Also make sure you set up your pin number in advance as well.

Still haven't gotten a room ready text. As Kelly just said, you seem to *have to* put in a CC for charging. I rarely do that, I find charging to the room to be more of a bother than just charging to my card. And they don't like that. :)

Just to add to this, even if you do enter a CC it's still not a guarantee that you will be able to Bypass The Front Desk.

Yep. If you check in online, they will send you a text when your room is ready. We have done this twice and worked great both times!

That's great it worked twice for you. But it's not factual to say that definitely if you check in online you will be able to Bypass The Front Desk. It's possible that you will be able to, but not guaranteed.

I received the Bypass the front desk email. However, I still have to stop as I had a package mailed to the resort and I need to claim that box from the front desk/bell services..but if I did not have that box, this email would have made my day :) I think it's great.

As others have said, it's an imperfect system and different people have different experiences. Others have stated that they did online check-in and went straight to the parks without a hitch. Some...myself included...have had trouble doing that. Back in the fall, we stayed one night at AKL before moving the next day to BW for the length of our stay. Did online check-in, credit card on file...all that jazz. When we left AKL after that first night, we just put everything in the car and headed to AK...we'll check in to BW after AK closes for the day, since we will assuredly have our room number texted to us by then. Well, that did actually happen without a hitch, as I received a text around lunch that day. The problem came earlier, when we attempted to go through the gate at AK and we weren't allowed in. We had to go over to guest services at the park to get everything straightened out.

So...hopefully it will work for you, but don't be surprised if it doesn't.
