Resort Arcades

I seem to vaguely recall reading a change in the arcades where they are no longer giving tickets to exchange for prizes. Can anyone confirm if this is the case? And if so, do you know if they will give anything for the ticket points we still have? My son never redeemed his last year because he wanted to save them and add to his total this year. I'm just wondering if those will just be lost now.
