The deposit is pretty small, not 20% of the cruise cost.

Normal deposit is 20% of your voyage faire.

If you book another cruise while onboard you can get a reduced deposit

Only cruises of 7+ nights get the reduced 10% deposit onboard. If you book less than 7 nights it is 20%.

Right, and it is a flat $250 if you book a placeholder while onboard. Once you turn that into a real cruise you would need to pay any additional deposit if necessary.

OK, I have not checked, but apparently I was lucky enough to get the 50% off deposit offers when we book (typically on opening day).

That 20% can be kind of a bunch when they used to only require $250/person.
