i am new to this whole Disney thing so a little overwhelmed!

I'm not staying on the resort, we are staying off site so didn't get to book reservations early.

My daughter is really into all the characters esp the princesses of course!

I loooked online and there is nothing open. Do I just have to keep going on everyday, all day long to try and find one? I saw someone mention something about a text alert stating an opening came up but couldn't find anymore info.

Please help this newbie!!

When is your trip? You can make reservations beginning at 180 days from the date you want to eat. 180 days from today (1/5/17) is July 4. The only "disadvantage" you have over someone staying on site is that you must make your ADRs daily, instead of for 10 days of your trip.

I'm really confused now! My trip is march 4-11.....
With those dates you're well within your time frame to book, but it's during spring break so it's feasible that a lot of what you want is booked.

If your trip begins March 4, you could have started making reservations 180 days before that. Even if you stay off-property. The only advantage for people staying in a Disney resort is that when they call on their 180 day, they can make reservations for 10 days at a time. You would have had to call on the 180 day for our March 4th dinner, and then the 179 day for your March 5th dinner, and then the next day for your March 6th dinner, etc. But, no need to worry about that now since it's two months away. Keep checking as often as you can. People will cancel the week of your trip to avoid the no-show $10 fee.
It may not be the princesses, but enough things will open up for you that you'll be able to have sit down meals if you want.

In regard to the texting feature you mentioned - I have never used this, but my understanding is that the website Touring Plans has a free feature in which you enter the name of the restaurant and the day you want to eat there, and they'll text you if a reservation becomes available for it. It doesn't make the reservation for you - you have to see the text ASAP and then go onto the Disney website and make the reservation yourself.

Where did you want to eat? Maybe we can help you choose alternatives.

Keep checking every day as often as you can. This is the mantra of the dis dining board.

But on a basic free membership, it will only let you scan for 1 or 2 reservations. So it's not a fix for needing a lot.

I have a paid membership and can only search for 2 at a time...are you saying I should be able to search for more since I paid?

I went back and looked after I read that it was more with a subscription, but the description on the reservation finder says it's limited to 2 right now.
