My 11 month window will be opening up soon for our trip next year.
I will be reserving a 1-bedroom and a studio. My husband and I (the DVC members) will be using the 1-bedroom. I'm not sure which group of family members will be in the studio--we've invited my father and stepmother but if they can't make it (they won't know until a few weeks prior) my mother and her housemate will come instead.

Will I be able to completely change the names on the studio without having to book a new reservation? If not I guess I could put my husband on the studio reservation and me on the 1 BR and just add the appropriate names to the studio later.

Yes, their your points, you can use them for anyone you choose and change who is staying in those rooms, anytime before check in.

We did that because we were having a large party and not sure who was coming; had a 2 bedroom with a definite list of 6 + a few others who said maybe and some last minute changes, in addition a studio in which some friends said they were coming and it ended up being used by my brother & nephew in the last month when my friends decided they didn't have enough money for tickets. For some reason they managed to get my nephew's name onto the reservation just fine but not my brother's so they called me the day of check in just to confirm that he was on the reservation, but you should be fine. In fact, on the two bedroom we checked in with the original 6, and had a few people come for the first half of the week, and a different few come for the second half so we just got one key for each on the 2nd and 4th nights of the reservation by going to the front desk. So even in the middle of the reservation you can add names ...

Thanks!
I was afraid that the original 2 names on the studio might have to get involved in a name change thing.

About the only restriction that DVC has is that you can have the same lead name on multiple rooms for the same dates.

We travel as a party of 6 to 8 and when you book a year in advance the cast of characters often changes. When I go to check in I give the adds and the deletes! It's a lot easier than calling MS every time!

The only time you might get in trouble with name changes is external trades where you pay for a reservation. When getting DVC rooms there is no problem.

Just another confirmation... when i rent my points I often change the names after I make the original confirm and I have never had an issue. They seem more concerned about the ages (dont know why)

I dont thik the names on the reservation matter at all. only at the time of check in does the resort need to know the names of the guest. i think it is legal reason.
so i would sugest making the res. with just one name and then adding or subtracting when you are sure.

I think dvc does this just to see if you are going over the limit of the # of guests in each size accomodation.

There is no other reason since as others have indicated, you don't even have to have the right names until you actually check-in and need to get room/charging keys for everyone in your party.
