Reservation Question

Hello Everyone!

My wife and I are proud new owners of AKV!
I've been reading the DVC boards on this website like it's my new religion!
My wife and I are Disney freaks and are excitied about our new adventure with DVC. We have not yet stayed on DVC property and plan to use our developer points for SSR this June.

I'm reading a lot about owners posting how they couldn't get reservations, had to be placed on a wait list, or one thread talking about DVC being oversold.

I guess the only question I have of owners is about getting reservations. When I book at the 7 month window (SSR) and the 11 month window (AKV) should I expect a hard time finding a 7 night stay in a studio?

We expect to request for SSR (developer points in June) at the 7 month window
and right after X-Mas Dec 27th-Jan 02 at AKV at 11 month window.

What you're hearing about waitlists and hard to get reservations refer mostly to the very popular holiday seasons.

By design, DVC is meant to operate at basically full capacity. For example this means that only 1/12th of the year's reservations can be during December. That's about 8% of the total year's reservations. If 10% or more of the members are trying for that month, then of course some won't get in.

If you vacation at slower times, you won't have any trouble at 7-months. For periods like Thanksgiving and Christmas, the 11-month window is the key.

Things change over time as members get the chance to stay at different resorts. My observations have been that after a resort opens, then a couple of years later after those new owners have stayed at their home resort, they're ready to try out the other resorts. That's when the 7-month window starts to get crowded.

Keep reading these boards and after awhile you'll get enough first hand reports to figure out the best way to use your points.
