Would they say forget it and turn us away? Should I even bother with the reservation if it says for 2 and there is no room for 3?

I think it would be easier if you had 3 and showed up with 4. Why not just call and ask. Never hurts. They may be able to do something.

You can try but are taking a gamble. It isn't just about table space but also staff and fire code.

When is your trip? I have been told they just absolutely can't fit another person in the building at a few restaurants at the world especially with 2 going to 3 or 4 going to 5. Usually it is because they are completely booked and honestly only could give us a 2 top (or 4 top for the 4 going to 5) and there was no safe way to add another person.

You can check online to see if there is a reservation for 3 (or 4) since you will most likely be seated at a 4 top table. If you call the dining reservation line, the castmember can check for you and if there is a res for 3 available they can book it for you. There is no way to call the restaurant directly.

As wilkeliza posted, you may or may not be accommodated if you show up with an extra person so it is better to try and get a reservation that includes everyone. Keep checking online up to the day before your current reservation since people often cancel just before the no show penalty deadline.

As a last resort, if you cannot find a res for 3 or 4 you could try walking up and hoping for the best. The castmembers at the podium will do their best, but there is no guarantee that they will accommodate you because the restaurant does have to follow fire code regulations. If they cannot, one person will have to eat elsewhere, or if your whole family decides to walk away you will be charged the $10 per person no show fee.

You can also check the cancellation thread for your month:

This is actually not true. We had to cancel a breakfast at the Crystal Palace last week on the morning of the adr and were told that as long as you show up in person and cancel you will not be charged the fee. It is strictly for no shows.

That's not in line with the official policy, but it might be an exception that the restaurant's manager has implemented. It could cease to be the case at any time.

Could be I guess - we checked the night before as they were closing to ask a CM there and she told us that as long as we showed up in person to cancel it would be fine. The CM the following morning confirmed that. I'm pretty sure there was one other restaurant that told us this as well, but can't remember which one - might have been Sanaa since we were wavering on keeping our dinner reservation or just getting appetizers in the lounge.
