Sorry if this is on the wrong board - wasn't quite sure if it was a planning subject or an operations subject!
Months ago, when I made reservations with my DVC points, I needed one more night at the end of our trip, hoping for Beach Club. That wasn't available, so Member Services checked resort, and a room was available there, but with more points and the $95 fee. Well I went with it, as this is probably the last time my girls and I get to Disney for a long time. I have never booked with points at non-DVC, and completely misunderstood how it works (my fault).
As it turns out, it appears that my mom, who has Alzheimer's and lives with me, will be joining me and my girls. I had no problem getting larger accomodations for the earlier part of my trip, and lo and behold, a larger DVC room opened up at Beach Club for our date, but now I don't know what to do with the resort room.
If I cancel it, I lose my $95, and I can only use the points on another reservation at a non-DVC place this use year, but we won't be going back so I won't be able to use those points (college and summer sports/summer internships filled up the summer).
Am I able to change the name on the reservation to someone else if I can find someone that would want one night at resort? I would rather not spend another $95 to book a connecting room for my mom at resort, especially since I won't have enough points even if I cancel the Beach Club.
If I can change the name on the reservation and give it to someone else, should I offer up the room on a site like David's Vacation Rentals? Or any other suggestions?
With my mom having Alzheimer's, I really prefer being in a DVC room, since there will be only one main door to leave the room, and I will be able to watch over my mom better. Hopefully someone here has an idea of what I can do?
