Hi all, we are looking at going the last week of October 2014 for 9 nights. Ideally, we would love to stay at BWV and have the opportunity to rent points from another DIS member to stay there! But, we are actually looking at buying in the next couple of months and are thinking of just putting that money into the purchase and taking our chances at getting a studio anywhere else at 7 months. It's hard to pass up the possibility to stay at BWV during F&W, but we'd ultimately be happy almost anywhere.
So, being new to DVC, what are our chances at being able to get a studio at 7 months out? Like I said, we would be happy almost anywhere, but would like a studio for sure. Thanks!

For more than a night, it could be tough. With F&W, it is hard to get the Epcot resorts at seven months out.

To get a studio somewhere? Probably fine if you book right at 7 months and most likely it will be SSR or AKV. That length of stay at BWV at that time isnt impossible but rather unlikely.

Where do you intend on purchasing? And once you purchase remember that you will have many years to take more trips and many more opportunities to stay at BWV.

If you would be happy with any resort, getting a studio at 7 months for Food & Wine time should not be a problem.

It would be a challenge at the BWV or BCV or BLT. But even so, some people get lucky at 7 months for those 3 resorts every year. You just cannot count on it. To have the best chance, you need to book online as soon as the window opens, currently at 8 am Eastern.

Columbus Day week is very competitive as is Jersey week.

You probably will be able to snag OKW (probably not near Hospitality House). 9 days is a problem in and of itself... You can only book 7 nights, then walk the other 2 nights - one day at a time.

Thank you for that important reminder! :goodvibes
Like I mentioned, we will be happy almost anywhere - we'll be at Disney after all! And if we get to use our own points, even better! I'm not sure where we want to buy yet. Leaning toward BLT, BWV, BCV, VWL or AKV.

You will get some resort at 7 months out. We went for 3 nights this past October. I booked at 5 months out...a studio...and there were 3-4 options for me at that time...SSR, OKW, AKV and VWL (I think). I booked SSR and waitlisted at BWV and BLT. 2 weeks later I got the waitlist at BLT.

But, I will say it would have made our trip way more enjoyable if we had stayed at BWV or BCV. We really longed for that the entire trip (popping in/out of Epcot at International Gateway). I am eying Oct 31-Nov 4 for next year and I'd love to buy some BWV points for that trip....sigh...not gonna happen as we added AKV and a few more HH points this year.

If you have decided to buy regardless, I'd wait and take my chances. I agree you should be able to get something though expect SSR or OKW to be all that's available to you.

I caution you to take the time to really understand the DVC system. Rules and policies, UY and the benefits or negatives of the different resorts.

We thought that we knew which resorts we liked but after several stays, our favorites changed and we found that we had purchased contracts at resorts we didn't really care for. We sold a few of the contracts and took a $10,000 loss and of course the resale prices increase soon afterword. :goodvibes

F&W fairly screams BW/BC. As for the rental - it would depend on what your dismember is charging you for the stay. So buy, I assume you mean resale, and see what's available by the time your point finally show up and then you might just want to go with the Dolphin, which is very available 3 months out.

We pretty much like all the DVC WDW FL venues but I have to admit we rarely stay at our 1st Home resort. It's just too far away. Luckily we've been able to trade into where we want to stay or our 2nd best place most of the time. We've toyed with the idea of selling our original contract but i think - from reading the various forums - that there will come a time when visiting the parks won't be a 'given' and then we'll be happy with the distance. :3dglasses
