So my DH and I are currently looking at buying into AKV either through Disney or resale. I think I understand how the disney end works and my guide is always around to help but I just want to make sure I am understanding the resale, so any help you could provide would be awesome. We are looking at a resale for AKV with a UY in December there is currently ~120 points available now with another 160 points becoming available in December 2010. We are looking at a vacation in October that would cost us ~80 points could we book 80 of the currently available points once we finalized the purchase then bank the remaining 40 points for next year then use those plus some of the new points for another vacation in January 2011? If we can do this how long do we have to bank the points that are currently available? If I understand correctly we have 8months from distribution so the points that were distributed in December 2009 we could bank until June 2010? is this correct or am I completely missing something? Does this sound like a worthwhile resale to purchase as our larger trip will always be in January with occasional shorter trips in the fall? Thank you so much

You must bank by end of eighth month of use year, for a December use year that means by July 31.

December is a good use year for January trips but has a disadvantage for fall trips that occur before December 1. It has to do with cancellation and banking. Take that October trip you are planning. Suppose come end of August, something comes up and you have to cancel. Those points used for that reservation cannot then be banked because you are beyond the banking deadline and must be used before Dec 1. Usual advice is to get a use year that starts shortly (actually up to about 6 months) before you usually go so you can always bank if you have to cancel.

Whether it is a worthwhile resale obviously also depends significantly on price but generally you can get resale for less than Disney is selling.
