I just got my DVC ownership and Im going through the website. It states:

•Currently, you may request a reservation for a Disney Cruise Line® vacation that has a sail date on or before July 29, 2013, some sailings may not be available for booking at the 24-month window

I thought as a resale owner I cant cruise? Is this just a generic message that everyone has or did DVC make an error?

DVC's website skillz are legendary. it's not updated for the new rules.

but they've only had 4 months. i'm sure they'll update the website in the next year or 2...

Right on the first page of the member website is a link titled 'New Policy Announced for Resale Purchases'. Click that, and the following is included on the page:

New Policy Announced for Re-sale Purchases

Disney Vacation Club® has announced a new policy that limits access to certain Member Getaways exchanges for Ownership Interests purchased on the secondary market (also known as the re-sale market).

Under the new policy, Members who purchase from anyone other than Disney Vacation Development, Inc., on or after March 21, 2011, will not be eligible to use those Vacation Points to make reservations within the Concierge Collection, the Disney Collection or the Adventurer Collection. Those Vacation Points will instead be valid only for reservations at Disney Vacation Club resorts, as well as for RCI® exchanges, Club Cordial and Club Intrawest.

The affected collections are special Member benefits programs offered by Disney Vacation Development, Inc., and are not part of Members' Ownership Interests. That said, Members who purchased on the secondary market prior to March 21, 2011, may use those Vacation Points for all Member Getaways.

Note that the policy doesn't impact banking, borrowing or transferring Vacation Points. All Members will continue to have the ability make such transactions, regardless of where they purchased their Ownership Interests. Complete rules about these transactions are available in the Home Resort Rules and Regulations section of this website.

Also, at the top of the Booking Guidelines page, all of the programs excluded from resale purchasers has an * with a footnote saying that it's only available to direct purchasers. And the point charts for those also indicate that they are only available to direct purchasers.

Remember, you can always rent out some points, and use the proceeds to pay for a cruise. As an added bonus, this usually is a better deal than a "straight" exchange.

"Next year or 2?"

Come on.

Do you really think they'll update it that fast? :rotfl2:

I don't see this as particularly misleading. The website does address that issue as noted above. I think any informed member would realize that this did not apply to them if they were not eligible for the cruise on points.

The website has generic coding which merely calculates out how long before you can book any vacation, etc. As others have said, it does tell you that you aren't eligible to book since you purchased resale....but I doubt they will ever have the website actually verify your ownership status before flashing these generic announcements of when a resort/cruise can be booked (with the exception of online booking, which is surely right around the corner :rotfl2:)

Since I bought resale this time will I be excluded from the Member Cruise? I remember I had to pay in points for one person and then I could use cash. I wonder it that rule has changed or if I am going to be at the dock waving goodbye to the members who bought from Disney direct.

I believe it's always been possible to pay for a member cruise with cash only though it's usually a fair amount more expensive than an otherwise comparable DCL cruise.

I remember it clearly but it could have been years ago. Could the member cruise have that stipulation. I remember it happening on one of the Disney cruises we took. But we took a lot and I can't remember when it was.

I agree it is better to rent the points out and pay for the cruise with cash.

I am not aware of a member cruise that could not be booked on cash only, otherwise the same rules apply.
