i just called to book a cruise and they said since I bought resale I can’t use my points to book a cruise. Is there any way around this? My guess now would be that I would have to sell my points then just use that to book cruise? Any other way? Thanks!

You can rent your points and use the cash.

Several rental companies have cruise swap programs that amount to rental exchanges.

This will not work for Member Cruises.

I've never read anywhere that it is worth it to exchange points for a cruise anyway.

As an example I looked at the points chart for the 15 night Sydney to Honolulu cruise in 2024, and compared to the DCL website cost.

The DCL website has the pricing right now for that cruise at $6,148.22 USD for 2 guests.
The points chart says 314-321 points per person based on double occupancy, for a standard inside room, so let's say 317 points x 2 = 634 points.

If you had 634 points and rented them to, say, the board sponsor, you're looking at around $15 per point, maybe a little more. That is $9,510 you could get for those 634 points, and of course, if you rented them yourself, you could potentially get a lot more. Effectively 1.5x the cost of paying cash, if you were to exchange points.

Good to know! Thank you!

So I fully understand this, and rent myself as well.
BUT
some people are not comfortable renting their points. So take that 634points and even at $9 for annual dues(high) it comes to $5706. So you can see how some see value in this. Even a discount.
Just another way to look at it for those who dont want to rent. Renting also brings in the "worth" value of having to claim rent on taxes and such,,,so each to their own.

True, I guess I can't quite understand not being comfortable renting points. But, another possibility then would be using a site like the board sponsor to "trade" the points. Yes, they still take your points and rent them, but as I understand it, there's no income received because then they take that money to book the cruise.

Burning 600 DVC points to save $500 cash is a tough pill to swallow.

Even if you don't want to go to the trouble of renting, offer them for transfer 600 points at $15 each. It's a 15 minute transaction and someone will bite. They'll flip the points for additional profit.
