well now we have decided to spend 2 nights of our trip at the dark side....here is the problem....I am paid in full....here is the bigger problem, I paid all but the initial $200 deposit with WDW gift cards (our grocery store gives gas discounts when you purchase WDW gfs)....will they just leave the over-payment on as a room credit once I shorten my package?

Thanks in advance

They will want to return it to the original gift card used. I've not heard of them allowing an overpayment to stand as a future credit for your room charges.

We have been in this exact situation. We were very close to our trip at the time and made a change that resulted in about 300 dollars being overpaid. The CM on the phone said.. "well, I could mail you a check, but that would be silly since you are coming so soon. It will be a credit on your room when you get here." (We had mailed in a payment not put it on a credit card).

NOPE.
So we get there and the front desk has zero idea what we're talking about. They call reservations and the person on the phone tells her that it's already been mailed out and that it is impossible to leave a credit on the room:rolleyes2.

Luckily we had other funds available but I was a bit miffed. Not much to be done about it at that point.
So long story short, it will go back on the gift card you paid with.

Thank you for your responses. Since they only sell $100 GFs at my store how do you think they will handle the refund?

I think they will only refund it to the gift card, and then you could use the gift card to pay for things while you're there. At least that is what I was told would happen, as we did the same thing, and were told to keep the gift cards in case there was a problem as they would be refunded to the original gift card:confused3

Right. It is the ORIGINAL gift card(s).

Because of this, I pay off my balance only after I arrive or use the cards for souvenirs and food. Funny, it is more advantageous to leave your bill unpaid until you arrive at Disney than to PIF early. :confused3

Hmmmm. This concerns me as I have an overage on a reservation for August that they told me would just be held as a credit for room charges. :confused3

I guess I'd better be on the look out for a refund.

Maybe call and check because I can't be sure who was giving me the wrong information in my case. It still took another 2 or 3 weeks after we got home to receive the money back. So it couldn't have "already been mailed out" like the person at the front desk told us. But it wasn't on our room like the original CM told us.:confused3

I had counted on that money being there for tips. Which was silly of me. So we ended up taking more money out with not so great bank fees or exchange rates. It wasn't the end of the world by any means, but maybe call again and see what is on the account?

I've used giftcards in the past for room payment. The CM always reminded me to keep the giftcard in case any portion of the payment needed to be refunded, for any reason. I've never heard of them leaving a credit on your room, but I may be wrong.

I am notorious for switching resorts and discounts, but am also one that always pays off my reservations ASAP, so have been overpaid numerous times.:rotfl::rolleyes1 (Now I always pay the room off using my Disney Chase card, not with gift cards, but the principle is the same.) They have always refunded the difference back to my cc. I have asked numerous times that it be left as a credit on my account, so I could just use it down there, but every single time they've told me that they must refund any over payments back to the original method of payment. Twice a CM has made a comment that be glad I paid with a cc and not a gift card, because alot of people pay with a gift card, then throw the gift card away, which causes problems as refunds must be made back to the original form of payment. I pay for my room with my cc, but use Disney gift cards for my meals and any souvineers I might buy. Even when a gift card zeros out, I make a point of keeping it, until I'm sure there is not going to be a problem with my purchases.

When I was down there earlier this month, I bought a tote bag at the Emporiam on my way out of the MK, using a gift card. On the way back to the resort I noticed that the stitching had come undone and it had like a two inch open area on a seam. As soon as I got back to the resort, I went straight into the CSR gift shop and asked to exchange it for another one just like it. They did not have that particular tote, so I just asked for my money back. When she ran it through, she noted that I had paid with a gift card and told me she was required to refund the money back to that same gift card.
