If you own property in Florida that is not your primary residence can you still qualify for the Florida resident rate? I figured since you would be paying taxes that would qualify you but I am not sure.

Here's the proof they are looking for:

Proof of Florida residency is required -- you must provide any one of the following:

Florida driver's license

Florida state-issued ID card (must have Florida address)

Current utility statement with your name and Florida address along with a corresponding picture ID

Florida voter's registration card with corresponding picture ID

A college ID for a Florida college

Florida-based military ID

My MIL tried to get FL residence discounts because she owns a condo in FL that she rents out. :hyper: Nope. You have to actually live there.

If your friend had a utility bill and a picture ID it seems like she should have been able to get a Florida ID card which is proof enough to get the discounts. Did she try this?

I own a second home in Florida. I took my tax bill, purchase contract and deed and was able to purchase Florida resident AP's. They made the "exception" because we didn't have FL photo ID's only because we had just bought the house.

One thing they looked for was if it was a condo or timeshare. If that had been the case, I don't think it would have flown without the photo ID card. They made it VERY clear that we would not be allowed to renew at the FL resident rate without the appropriate photo ID. Not a problem, we plan on getting those in June or July. I'll also be applying for the Dining Experience card then :)

Yet another contradiction. Active duty military can keep official FL residency. DH has a FL driver's license & voter registration card, even though he currently lives in CT. I confirmed with a CM that he would be considered a FL resident.

You don't even need a utility bill to get an ID card. All you need is a current picture ID, like any state's driver's license, and you can just tell them the address. But that is only for an ID, not a license.

Listen to this one -- my husband's brother has the same name as my husband's father (Sr. & Jr.). My father-in-law has a 2nd home in Florida. My brother-in-law booked a room with the Florida residency discount and CM said all he would need is a copy of a utility statement. My BIL got a copy from FIL, but the CM NEVER asked for anything upon check-in -- just gave him the discount no questions asked. I don't agree with it at all, but obviously I wasn't going to call the resort. I would never dare take that kind of chance, but it just goes to prove that some CM's are not strict at all, or even careful for that matter.

Thanks for all your replies. It sounds like I will be OK if I get the Florida ID by showing a utility bill. I wasn't sure if the photo ID I showed to get it would have to have my florida address but from your posts it doesnt't sound like it does. Thanks again

Anne,

We just recently moved to Florida. Could you please give me more information regarding the Dining Experience card?

Thanks,

Teresa

As long as you have any of the above listed items with a Fla address you will be able to get the discount. I will tell you at c/i at ALL Disney resorts they ask for id. This is a security step they started a few years ago.

I will also tell you that as a cm we were told what we could accept as proof of Fla residency. The list above is what we were instructed as the only acceptable proofs, showing that you actually live in Florida.

Grumpy92, I feel guilty for exposing my inlaws but then again I'm glad you, as a CM, are aware that this happened. They went in February of last year and stayed at a value resort. Truthfully, they are planning to do the same thing again in the fall and they have told hundreds of people about it. Perhaps I'll gently alert them that I read the resorts are cracking down on this kind of thing......

Just keep in mind that if you are using the FL ID card, it must have a Florida address. If you are using a FL DL, it doesn't have to have a Florida address.

I thought it had to have a Florida address unless it was in combination with a voter registration card or something. Like you could use your voter registration card and military ID together, but if it is a military ID alone it has to indicate you are at a Florida base (which, unless the new ones are different, they don't).

The second poster listed this as valid proof of residency per Disney :

Current utility statement with your name and Florida address along with a corresponding picture ID

I have a stack of utility bills with my name and FL address. I have a CT drivers liscence. I travel back and forth between CT and my FL property. I had assumed the FL utility bill and CT ID will work per Disney. Has anyone done this....this is my plan for our April trip, could someone please elaborate? It has always been my understanding that the picture ID could be from any state, not just FL. (A tidbit picked up from these boards to begin with :) )
If this is not the case, I want to order our Hoppers before our trip....

Just want to add that the utility bills are mailed to our CT address, but show the property address in FL....Just want to make sure I'm doing this right. I don't care really either way, just want buy my tickets without a hassle and don't want to break the rules....

I will pass on what the cms are instructed. We are told to look for clues that you actually live in Florida or have established your residence as Florida. What we look for is the florida address, is it on your utility bill, voter registration is a very good proof, can we clarely see that you are getting mail at a fla residence, does the address match what is on the id. The only exception to this rule is military and they get a separate discount.

Believe me I have heard every explanation in the world, even some canadian guest who had a time share and their TA told them they could get the Fla Res discount. That was a fun experience. Sorry to those of you who own property in Fla but live elsewhere, as far as wdw is concerned you are not a Fla Resident.

Katensam I would suggest you get a Fla id card if you wish to keep your CT DL. You can then have your Fla address on it and you wont have to worry whether it is acceptable or not at the ticket window. The Fla id allong with your electric/phone/cable bill with the Fla address on it would be acceptable.

Saying all that some cms are more cautious then others about the proofs. You just dont know.

Thanks for the info Grumpy. I don't plan on lying about my residency status if pressed, I consider myself a CT resident who owns property in FL, and pays taxes and spends 4 months a year there. WDW should be more clear than just saying a utility bill with corresponding ID will suffice....no? I'm not getting on you BTW, I really appreciate the CMs insight :)
Guess I'll be ordering my 5 day hoppers now!
