Requesting your own table

Hi,

We are sailing next week on the Dream and I am still gathering info as to what and what nots.

When I called DCL yesterday to ask info about the movies showing, I also requested to have our own table and not share it. I was told I have to either pick to share table or not for the entire cruise and I asked to have our own table.

Has anyone done this? Will I regret not sharing and meeting others? It will be 3 of us, myself, DD4 (we're celebrating her 5th birthday) and her father. I am not antisocial lol but would prefer a quiet dinner time for the 3 of us. :thumbsup2

Would like to hear opinions on this matter.

Thanks!

We are a family of 4. We were typically seated at a 4-top table.

Once we shared an 8-top with another family of 4. It was ok, they were nice, but we prefer to have "family dinners", so I have always made it a point to request a 4-top from now on.

Also, Disney will tell you that they will note your request, but they cannot guarantee it.

We much preferred having tablemates. We have done both, but after having wonderful tablemates to share stories with, the next cruise we we put by ourselves and were terribly disappointed!

It's up to personal preference. We found that after spending all week together, experiencing the same things, we were looking for a more varied conversation. Love my family, and always thought I would prefer just the 3 of us, but after awhile, it's a bit :rolleyes1

My family of 3 was assigned to our own 4-top table on the Fantasy. Although we didn't request it (or expect it - we assumed we'd be sharing) we didn't mind having our own table either. I have to say it was kind of a nice surprise.

We are a family of 5. Last cruise we were placed w/ a family of 3. It was OK. It kept up conversation and they were nice. But at times I felt it was a bit akward. For instance if we showed up first I felt bad just taking the 5 seats we wanted in case they wanted to sit in certain seats. Some seats have better views.

Next, I enjoy dressing up for dinner. Our table mates did not and it left me feeling a bit overdressed a few nights.

If their son ordered something (like the light up cup on pirate night) all my kids wanted one too.

If you just didn't feel like talking you felt like you had to keep up conversation.

This cruise we requested our own table. However, dh and I are going to go out of our way to try to meet people at the beginning of the cruise so we have a more varied experience. We'll see how it goes :confused3

My DW and I always reserve a 4-top for 2 unless we have family or friends with us. I wouldn't consider us antisocial, we just prefer to dine as a couple only. I don't need anyone seeing how much diet coke or how many deserts i get. There are plenty of other opportunities to meet shipmates during the cruise.

I usually request to be seated by ourselves. While we are not "anti-social" par se, we tend to be very prompt for meals and I don't like having to wait for others to show up - also not a fan of small talk and prefer some family time. I have also requested a particular dining rotation a few times (and got it every time so far); and for our upcoming Alaska cruise requested particular servers as well...we'll see how that works! :goodvibes

Hi,

You are going to have to make a request for this after you board the ship because all dining requests are turned over be assigned two weeks prior to the cruise date. After that point, any new requests won't been seen by that department. The time and place for dining assignments will be noted in the navigator you are given when you check in at the port.

Family of 5---6 if grandma is with us--always have requested and received our own table.

Fwiw, we had a table to ourselves; we'd requested it because it was our honeymoon and we wanted to have nice romantic dinners. But we still made friends on the ship, just by going to Skyline and the adult pool and excursions and so on. I'm still in good touch with a few of them now. So if you want alone time at dinner, there are other ways to be social.

Personal preference.
We have enjoyed all our table mates over the years. Part of the cruise experience. But we like dressing up for dinner too, we old school cruisers.

Thanks so much for all your input! Now I don't feel as bad asking to have our own table lol.

I will definitely mention this when we check in.

Been on 4 Disney cruises, late dining (per preference of our family schedule) every time, and requested and got assigned table for 3 of us per request every time. I do hear that it is more likely to be an honored request with late seating than main but it doesnt hurt to request. I think it is just about personal preference as to if you choose to be seated with others or not. We are certainly not antisocial, and have made nice conversation with folks at neighboring tables each time we have cruised but just prefer to be at our own table with our ornery DS who has cruised since he was 2 1/2 years old.

When you get on the ship and get your 1st day's Navigator there will be a section (On front page I believe) that lists how to make dining changes- there will be an assigned time that they will take requests listed and you can just go to whatever area of the ship they have listed at that time and you will meet with a cast member who will talk to you about your request. Hope this helps!

On our first cruise, My Wife and I requested our own table and got a 4 seat table for ourselves (it was our honeymoon) We liked having our own table, but got along with the people sitting at the table next to us.

We didn't request our own table on our 2nd Cruise (This Monday ...YAY!!) I'm hoping if we do have tablemates, that we don't hate em :) and I don't want to have to talk to them the whole time. I'm not much of a talker at dinner time..even with my wife lol

We requested our own table last time and will do it again. It was nice having just our family for dinner.

We requested , and had no problem getting one. We noted how many 4 person tables there are (compared to other cruise lines). They want to make you happy, so will do the best they can. We too were looking for family dinners. On another cruise line we once got sat at what seemed to be the "leftovers" table. Everyone was much older than us, and DH was the only man. Everyone was nice enough, but it was challenging to find enough to talk about for 7 nights!
