Requesting work locations?

I keep reading on other peoples blogs and on here about requesting to work at a certain attraction or location. How do you request where you want to work? I know during the interview what your favorite ride or park was? If you can I want to know so I can work somewhere I'll love!

In my interview during the Attractions questions, I was asked if I had any preference/idea of a specific location/role. My response was rather general, I just mentioned that I would prefer a roller coaster or thrill ride like Everest, RnRC, or Tower of Terror. I'm not counting on getting a specific ride, though. I keep thinking about my first year at Cedar Point, where I was expecting to be at a specific ride and got manuals for a completely different ride at the opposite end of the park when I processed in. That definitely taught me to keep an open mind and be ready for (major) change.

The thing to remember about requesting work locations in Attractions is that College Recruting can only place you in an Area. The Area will determine your specific location assignment based upon labour needs.

For example, even if you request Space Mountain until you're blue in the face, College Recruiting could only place you in Tomorrowland Attractions. From there, the Area Leadership could decide to put you on Carousel of Progress because that's where they need people.

It's much better to request a certain Park or Area, as it gives College Recruiting much more breathing room.

You should also mention your comfort with delivering spiels, as that plays a big role in determining the Area you're assigned to. All Attractions Cast Members can be called on to deliver extended spiels, but if possible, they can try to place you in an Area where you won't end up being assigned to something that requires you to deliver it continiously.

For example, if you're uncomfortable with spieling - the thought of continiously operating the World Famous Jungle Cruise attraction at Magic Kingdom Park and having to crack bad jokes every minute and a half absolutely mortifies you -you should probably mention it so College Recruiting knows not to put you in Innoventions at Epcot (which is it's own area). On the other hand, if you're fine with that, you should mention it as well.

CPers usually get the major Disney attractions like Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Mission Space, Tower Of Terror, Expedition Everest etc right? I just don't want to be stuck on a boring carnival ride like Dumbo or the tea cups. Finding out what attraction I'll be working on is making me more nervous than actually moving from New Jersey to Florida & living on my own for 6 months.

In Florida, CPs can be assigned to any Attraction, depending on labour need, with the exception of things that require extra qualification that the CP doesn't have (i.e. a CP without a Driver's License is not going to be placed on Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park).

Things like Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain (particularly right now, with the recently completed rehab) do have very long lists of FT and CR Cast Members who would like to be trained there, so it's much less likely that a CP would be placed there. However, it's still possible.

In California, CPs can be assigned to any Attraction, except those that are Cross-Train Only (Space Mountain, BTMRR, etc.).

I just called recruiting and asked if I could put in a request and I told them either anything in the Magic Kingdom or the Great Movie Ride. They put it in my file and said there were no guarantees. I'll really be happy with anything, but I think that delivering spiels will be more challenging and rewarding.

I put in a request during my interview for Sunset Blvd. attractions at DHS. I didn't want the MK because I've been going to WDW since I was 8 and have a lot of family memories there. Especially Splash Mt. and Big Thunder Mt. I figured with a request in the studios, and considering all the other attractions in WDW, my chances of getting the two rides I didn't want (for nostalgic reasons and not wanting the magic ruined) were very slim. I got to WDW and read my Program Guide only to see FRONTIERLAND ATTRACTIONS printed on it. I was kind of bummed that I didn't get DHS but after beginning work at Big Thunder Mountain, I realized I couldn't imagine NOT working there. It was the time of my life and I loved it entirely. It was absolutely amazing. And not to mention, the magic wasn't AT ALL ruined for me. If anything, I just have MORE memories with that attraction and with the MK.

So just bear in mind that even though you place a request, it doesn't mean you'll get it. Some people get their requests and some don't. I didn't but remember, everything happens for a reason! And regardless of where you're placed, you can still have sooo much fun.

My roommate answered yes to the question "If it was your only option, would you work QSFB?" It wasn't one of the roles she included on her checklist and that's where she got placed. On top of that, she got placed at the Wide World of Sports after she had her heart set on working in a park. She was completely bummed but she also had the time of her life. In the end, it honestly doesn't matter where you work as long as you're willing to accept it and have fun regardless :)

I totally agree with these comments. And I can attest to them. I put in a request for JC or GMR before the start of my CP. But I didn't get either one (I ended up getting TSM). While I was upset at the time, I've gotten used to TSM. And I love the people I'm working with. I'm moving to a new location in Jan. And I hope I enjoy wherever I'm working as much as I do now.
