Two Iraqi prisoners have been killed by US troops during a disturbance at the Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad, the US military says.
The trouble began when guards saw a large group of detainees attacking a fellow inmate, a statement said.

"Lethal force" was used to bring the situation under control, it said.

Abu Ghraib prison became notorious earlier this year when shocking pictures were published showing US soldiers abusing Iraqi inmates.

This is a prison, sometimes lethal force is necessary. Unless I get more information that's my stance.

How can your stance be that lethal force is necessary ?

ITA Kelli.

If there is uprising and the guards are threatened they must do whatever needs to be done to control the situation.

Is this JJ/VH posting?

Lethal force is needed to be used sometimes. It is always as a last resort in a prison. If this report is true, the attacking inmates could have started a bigger riot where scores of people could have been killed or maimed. Would it have been best to say something like, "come on now, stop. you shouldnt be doing that. Leave him alone." They dont follow the directions. Then it spreads. Then the attacking inmates make the others mad. Others start rioting. Then we would have people posting
"US not doing enough to keep prisoners safe. 75 dead, 200 injured, 100 hostages taken at Abu Ghraib prison"

I know several correctional facilities officers and none of them want to use lethal force. Sometimes it happens. Most of the time it doesnt.

Im waiting until I find out more about it to make a judgement. How about posting a link to back up your claims of death.

Don't care to share what MY "personal stance" is regarding this matter, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that MOST Americans are "indifferent" to this.

I thought they could use fire hoses or something first. Then maybe plastic bullets!!

Is Abu Ghraib prison still run by the US or is it run by the Iraqi government ?

Now, it's gonna be all over the news what has happened & the whole world is once again see the US as the bad guys, but no one really bats an eye when civilians are being beheaded. Unimaginable things happen over in Iraq, but when US uses a little force in an attempt to bring civility - well, we're just plain wrong. I'm sorry, I just don't get it!!!!

Why be so secretive? You not being asked to reveal how much money you make or any other very personal information. I find it interesting that you would post a message saying that you don't care to reveal your "personal stance" while at the same time attempting to speak for so many others.

Don't know, I wasn't there. How big was the "large group"? should they just have sat back & let this group attack & kill the other inmate? Hmm... Now, what would the headlines have said then?

Could you please provide a link to your source. I cant find anything about it on any of the major news sites.

I heard it on the wireless. KristiKelly the group was about 200 people, well 1 death is better than 2 isn't it.
