S it possible to rent points for a vacation in less than 2 weeks if the resort has availability?

Never rented points any suggestions. The points are from a reliable person. More wondering how far out one should rent and any other details one should be aware of. Thanks!

yes, it's possible. many DVC owners don't want to deal with the risks of nonpayment and possible loss of their pts with last minute reservations but it is possible.

some room types at some resorts are more difficult to get. for those, you'd need to book 10-11 months out. SSR is a large resort and is more likely to have last minute availability. even there, sometimes nothing is available within a month or so out. (if DVC owners don't use their pts, they lose them.)

the big things to know about DVC rentals:

*you are not dealing with disney, but rather with an individual
*you typically do not get any option for a refund if you cancel
*daily housekeeping would cost extra
*the DVC reservations phone staff will not speak with you, only with the owner.

So we have a studio reservation for Aulani and if we rented points (from close friend). Could we change reservation to one bedroom (if available)? Our reservation starts in Feb 23. Thanks again!

Only with points - your friends points. You can't upgrade a DVC room for cash. And if you have a cash reservation at Aulani, you can't use that cash reservation towards a DVC rental.

In other words, you cannot combine cash and points.

Perfect. Thanks. We have a dvc points reservation but wasn't sure if we could combine our points and our friends points or if they had to be separate.

You can not mix points from different owners for any one night. You'd need to use your points for some nights and your friends points for other nights OR transfer your friends points to your account and make the reservations.

You can't just add points from two different memberships together without a transfer.

I have a question about renting. How do you add the dinning plan and conform your reservations made by the DVC member if no one will talk to the renter?

The owner of the points should be able to forward you the confirmation. Be aware that the owner has full control of the reservation so there needs to be a level of trust. As for adding the DDP, I think I heard that some people have loaded up a pre-paid Visa card and used that number on a 3-way call to Member Services.

Most owners won't do this until they have the money in hand for the reservation because of the way those points would be possibly unusable if you canceled or did not pay them.

DVC inventory is not the same as the cash inventory that you can see on the Disney website. You need to verify availability with a DVC owner.

as stated, the owner has to add the DDP. paying for it can be complicated.

you can confirm your reservation on the wdw website. you just cannot call in to member services to check on it or make any adjustments or requests.
