How do you begin? I'm planning a May trip and would like to explore the possibility of renting points. How many points would I need for a 10 day stay? Are the points different for different resorts? Is it even possible at this point? TIA

at 12 dollars a point, a renter can still save money by renting pts on a friday/saturday versus a CASH room rate.

At the top of your screen you'll see a DVC points chart. This will tell you what you may need for points for your stay...based on resort and accomodations. Then multiply by $12 ....this will give you an idea of cost. Once you know the points requirement you can always post it on the rent and trade board. Basically say I need x number of points for x resort and the dates...... or simply respond to a member that has points for rent.

Thank you! I found the link and figured out what I would need.

Here is a link that you can use thats pretty good.
http://***********/Points/DVCPointCharts.shtml

The resorts vary from Old Key West being cheaper and getting more expensive from SSR then to BCV and BW. Goes from 10 for weekdays at OKW to 13 at BCV.(studio)

For a fellow LIer just send any questions and I will try to help out. Rentings not really hard but it is short notice. Plenty of people out there with points just look at the terms carefully.

An example for you would be May 7th check in and May 17th check out at SSR for a studio would be 148 points. Old Key West would be 128 points.

Also you can try to stay as few weekend nights as possible (Fri + Sat) as those are over twice the amount of points.
Do a Sunday, Monday or Tuesday start to optimize the points for the 10 day trip.

I would think twice about renting fri/sat.

example

May

OKW - sun-thurs - 10 points per night - fri/sat - 24 points per night....

so you can have 5 days for 50 points or 2 days for 48 points.....

now you can definitely do it. but you can get a more reasonable rental without fri/sat....
