If we rent points for a *night stay in, can we purchase DDP for (fewer) days? What is the DDP cost per adult/child for DVC?

For payment, I think the renter (listed as guest) will be able to call DVC MS to make DDP payment directly rather than having the owner do it. If not, have people figured out the best way to pay?

Also, will we need to buy park tickets from Disney to purchase DDP? If no, I think we will save by using UT.

Any other rental suggestions are also appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Using DVC, you do not need to purchase park tickets to get the DDP. You can add it as part of your DVC reservation. Your DDP must be for each night you say. If you're renting for 7 nights, you'll have to get DDP for 7 nights. Yes, use UT Tourist before you go to get tickets cheaper and mailed to you.

I think the DDP is $45.99 per day in 2011. Not sure though.

If the person you have rented from is willing to break your trip into segments then you can get the dining plan for any segment- you don't need any tickets for the dining plan.

Only the member can call member services. You will have to arrange with the member to make the payment.

No - you must have a member number to do anything through Member Services. A resort confirmation number won't do it. You'd need to arrange payment through the member you are renting from.

You can buy the DDP for fewer nights than your full stay. It's not required to have it for the full stay any more if you are DVC member staying on a DVC reservation.

The problem is that the guest must pay for dining when it is added to the reservation. So you may have a member who won't deal with that. Unless you get full payment to them right away, most won't pay for it for you and wait to be reimbursed.

And the latest you can add the plan is 48 hours before the start of your trip, but it has to be paid at that time, too.

You don't need to buy a ticket as part of a package with a DVC reservation.

Did that just recently change, or is it not publised yet? The last that I inquired, the DDP was required to be purchased for each noght of the stay. I can't find anything that says it can be purchased for a shorter period. Here's the exact langauge on the member website:

"Disney Dining Plan is based on the length of your stay at Walt Disney World Disney Vacation Club Resorts or Walt Disney World Disney Collection hotels. It is not available at Disney's Vero Beach Resort, Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, or The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel® & Spa.

Every Guest in the room must purchase the Disney Dining Plan for the duration of the reserved stay."

Basically what you do is make 2 separate reservations and they are linked. One with, one without or with different plans, whatever you want. So for example, you could have the dining plan for nights 1 to 4 and without for nights 5 to 7. The credits would expire at the end of the first reservation, you could not carry them through to the second. You must now pay when you add the plan. So if you book at 11 months and want to add the plan then, you pay then or wait to add it up to 48 hours before. If you know you are going to split the reservation, you can make 2 reservations and add the plan later if you want to pay later. But you will not be able to call for the second reservation until 11 months from that date. If you try to split the reservation later, there is a possibility you could lose it.

There used to be a News article on the MS website with information about how DCV members would be able to buy the DP for only part of your vacation, but now it's gone.

Since MS needs to manipulate the system by splitting a reservation into two or three parts, I can see that this perk might be available for a limited period. As it seems that perk that takes extra manpower seems to go away after awhile.

Wow ... if I would have known it was that simple, I would have done it vacations ago! ha

Seriously, it sounds a lot more complicated than it's worth to me; I really just wanted to know in case a renter ever wanted to know (not that I rent that often). We personally think the DDP's not worth it, expecially when you're in the DVC rooms with the ability to do your own breakfasts or more (of course that means 1BR or more). We've even cooked or grilled on occasion or brought in carryouts from Puck espress, places on the Boardwalk, etc. It's all in what one wants out of their experience.
