Renting points question

Planning a trip for *. Although I am a current owner, I am short some points to complete the trip I want to take and am trying to decide whether to try to rent/transfer points from an owner or just pay cash for those extra days and stay in one of the other resorts. I have never rented points before and my concern is that if there is no availability for my dates in my resort choice, I will be out my money with no reservation. I know in many cases half or all of the money is due upfront. What happens if I am unable to secure a reservation?

If trying to make a (date) ressie now you will probably face some issue of availability. Options you have for extra points:

When reserving through MS within seven month window you can now purchase up to 24 extra points for the trip from Disney for $15 per point.

You can rent from member one of two ways. First, member makes reservation for you using his points; in your case they would make the reservation for the additonal day or days you want when you rent so you would know whether you can get whatever you want before or at time you would pay. Essentially you would make one reservbation with your own points first and then get additonal days through rental if you can and then link ressies and in that situation you would not actually pay without knowing you have those additonal days.

Second, you can simply get a transfer of points. That one creates risk that you will pay for and then not be able to use points for trip if days are not available when you call to reserve those extra days because you will complete transfer before that happens and thus pay for the points. But as long as those transfered points are still bankable, you could just bank them and use them for later trip.

Thanks. I have already reserved some days using the points I have. Although I am hoping to find a transfer that way if I cant find the days I want, I would still have points to use later and would not be "out" anything, it makes me feel better about renting knowing that I would only pay if a reservation is able to be secured.

No, but the member can do that if they choose when making a reservation for someone.

The points are worthless to you if you are not a member. You actually rent a reservation from a member. The member controls the reservation the entire time, but you get to stay on the reservation.

well thats one way to solve the issue!! would love to add on......maybe in a few years time
