Renting points from Disney for a trip?

So, I initially bought 100 points from Disney directly this summer. I have since purchased 200 points on the resale market, but its going to take 4-6 more weeks for that to go through.

My family is wanting to go on a Feb trip for my wife's birthday. The rooms are pretty dang full (disappointing), but there is at least SS and AK available, for now...

However, I only have 50 points I can borrow against (we have booked a trip for May already using 2017 100 points and 50 from 2018), but the 3-night stay for Feb is 87-121 points depending on how we go. My Disney sales rep told me that I can "rent" points from Disney, but only up to 24.

So the questions I have are:

1. Is renting from Disney the best way to go because I have 50 points I want to use of my own and I need 35-70 points additional? It seems like to rent from other people I would actually have to have two different reservations...one for the points I can cover and one for the points I am renting from another user.

2. What is the price of the points from Disney, if I can/do go that route?

3. Has anyone heard of Disney allowing you to borrow more than 24 points?

Thanks!

No, 24 points is the most Disney will give you for one time use. The points are currently $17 per point. You can transfer points from someone if they offer, but other than that, you can only buy 24 one time use points. Hope this helps.

Where are you staying in May, and are you willing to split stay then? If so, shave a day or two off of May and book Feb.

You’ll have more time to fix the May trip with your resale points.

Alternatively, split stay Feb with a value or moderate cash.

Yeah, the 24 points limit is probably going to kill the idea of getting the loaners from Disney. Thanks!

Staying at AK in May - already booked as that is a 2bdr with a larger group. The May trip was already kind of tight on availability, so I don't think I want to change that.

The idea of splitting my Feb stay is interesting - book 1-2 days with my points, buy points for the other 1-2 days through a broker. Any issue with that in terms of checking in with two different reservations at the resort?

I would try a combination without using a broker so that it's easy to link the reservations together. That's a hassle for a rental broker to do.

Try this: if you need four days, use your points for two, the one time use points for the third, and see if WDW has the same room type available for cash reservation for the fourth. Then see if MS can link both confirmation numbers together (the one time use points and your points will be a single confirmation number).

I know this isn't what you asked - but if you have Starwood (SPG) points, we added 3 days at the Dolphin to our February BLT stay. Seemed like they had plenty of availability.
