Renting points, can you get other DVC benefits?

As I understand the "renting points" thing, if I rent points from a DVC member I pay them, they make the reservation in my name, and that is it. We have to pay the "regular" rate for tickets, etc. and don't get the benefits that flow to DVC members using their own points. My confusion comes from another post that indicated that a DVC member could buy a meal plan for you. ANd then I think I saw someone on ebay indicating they could even buy the tickets for the "renter." What is the deal?

DVC members do not get any ticket purchase discount except for a discount on the Annual Pass, which would not be transferable to a renter. This would be a similar answer as the one you received to this particular question in August.

The Disney Dining Plan may be added to DVC reservations for travel after April 1. You would pay for that at the resort at check-in but it must be arranged in advance.

As noted, there are no discounted ticket options for renters (or guests of DVC members), only for members and their immediate family. There may be some dining discounts available to you as a renter by using your room id (if it states "DVC Member"). In some cases you could be asked for a membership card, but it can't hurt to ask at the restaurant.

Enjoy your stay!

Thanks Doc and apologies for the repetitive question Canadian. With two small children and a busy legal practice, this mom can't always remember everything.

It's possible that the Ebay person is selling regular passes available from Disney, or perhaps they have left over unused hopper passes. Since the only discounted tickets DVC members get is for the annual pass, there would be no real advantage to buying ticket media from a member. If you sign up for the dining plan, you must have the member prearrange that at the time you rent, and you don't pay for the dining plan until you arrive at the resort. It is not connected to ticket media like it is for the non-DVC resorts.

My husband and I just rented DVC points during our stay at the Boardwalk Villas a couple weeks ago. We were able to get some dining discounts even though we're not DVC members. We just had to give the restaurant our room card for the villas (which says DVC member on it) and they gave us the discount.

I really hope that point renters can take advantage of the dining plan. We hope to go back to Disney this fall and are planning on renting points. We'd love to do the dining plan if it's available even though we're not DVC members.

You most definitely can...just tell whoever you are renting points from that you want to add the plan. Member Services adds it to your ressie and you pay the DDP fees directly to the resort upon check-in.
