Renting points at the Poly, good value or not?

I personally can not see a savings in renting a studio at the Poly through a broker if Disney has a 30% off discount for a regular room there, and stacking it with Orbitz. Now if anyone else can offer a better perspective, please chime in.

Remember this is all hypothetical...

2/1/16 - 2/5/16- renting points through a broker for a standard room- $1344

2/1/15 - 2/5 15- Disney 30% off rack rate- $1353, plus Orbitz 15% off- $190 = $1163-had to use the 2015 rates of course.

Now am I correct here with this hypothetical mock up, or am I missing something?

You're not missing much. When there's an Orbitz deal stacked with a Disney room discount, it's sometimes cheaper than renting. I've gotten deals through Oribtz for the equivalent of $9 per point.

I have pointed this out several times after someone states that "renting is always cheapest." It's not always, and it's a shame that misperception is perpetuated SO often here.

However, I doubt we're going to see Poly studios discounted for a while. GFV studios are NEVER discounted, and the Poly studios have not been included on any discounts as of right now (at least last I checked). So for now, I'd rent until they lose a little luster and Disney sees a need to throw them in with their discounted inventory.

Don't forget, with renting you only get limited housekeeping every four days. With a cash reservation (not cash through DVC), you get daily housekeeping.

Add tax if not renting.

Well to be fair, that is with tax. But if your going in late summer theres no way you could top the deal with that certain "agency" we won't mention who has the most fab rate going for there during that time.

Very refreshing to see others agree with me on this.

Like in everything, people need to do the numbers to see if it's a good value for them and they need to understand what they are really getting.

I would jump on that price through Orbitz, because I don't see anything close to that on the Disney website. Poly rooms start at just over $500 a night, and increase to over $600 a night towards the end of the year. Nothing past December, but even the weekday on non busy weeks are over $600 a night.

Well in the value season of this year the weekday rate is $483, the weekend rate is $518 for a standard view room. This is tax inclusive.

Oh, I see you are comparing last years rate to this upcoming years rate. I am able to find your $483 rate in the upcoming year, but do not see any discounts. I would guess now that the main pool is done with construction you are not going to see the same rates / discounts as last February. But if they do need to fill rooms they will offer discounts or incentives - so it is possible.

I'm not sure it will be that easy to rent at the Poly in the near term.

if a discount is available id grab it even if renting was theoretically slightly cheaper.
