I'm trying to plan our itinerary and was wondering if anyone renting points has NOT had the word "member" on their room key. It won't be a big deal if ours does not, but it would make my planning a little easier. I would know whether or not to leave time open to pool hop to the Poly and the BW. Right now, the days we are renting points for a completely open and it looks really bare on paper. ;)

Our 1st OKW room keys had "DVC MEMBER" printed on it and our 1st VWL room keys had "MEMBER". I dont know if they have to type it on the computer before they print them up or just select a preset "label".

If memory serves, rented points do not say member on the room key. Only members who are their own points have cards that say member.

I've actually read that some people have had "member" on their cards when they rented points, that is why I was asking. Maybe they were old posts that I read?

Gigashadow, what do you mean by "first cards"? Years ago? Or just the first card that was printed for your party?

I've twice sent family to WDW on my points, and both times their cards had "DVC Member" printed on them. I'm under the impression that any stay on points will have cards made up this way.

This topic has been addressed before. From what I recall, it's always been the experience of others that the card will have "member" on it when renting points.

It seems that if the stay is on points, it's automatically registered as a member's booking, regardless if they're staying there themselves or renting it out.

Well, if that be the case, then the argument for non members renting points pool hopping is somewhat moot, right? I did think that was a member only perq.

Correct.

Technically, a member renting a reservation is supposed to notify MS of that fact (and the assumption is that MS will somehow note that information on the reservation).

In reality, even when members have informed MS of the rental arrangement, the guest still has "Member" printed on the room ID, which then allows all member perks available during that stay- including pool hopping.

Either DVC has (1)no way to differentiate a member rental (all point based reservations are considered a "Member", (2) has no effective means to police the issue, or (3) doesn't regard it as a problem. (My guess is that it's #3.)

Enjoy!

Just rented points for l br at BWV 8/25-28 and our cards had 'DVC Member' printed at the bottom. It was obvious that we were renting because the confirmation I handed the CM had the members name at the top and mine underneath. We were also given free valet parking and the DVC discount on our UPH tickets without question. DS loved spending time at the community hall and the boardwalk, so we didn't do any pool hopping, but I'm sure we could have. As long as you are renting pts and not booking room through CRO, what difference would it make that you also get those privileges with your rental- they are DVC points, right? The room was wonderful - we are spoiled now!!

The only difference I could see is that you are not members, and it is a member perq. Other than that, none.
