Renting or Transfer - what's the difference

When it comes to the technical part of DVC my husband is the brains in this house. I simply wait for him to tell me when and where we're going and I'm happy to go and enjoy. (actually he does ask if dates and location are ok with me).

The thing I'm getting at is that I don't know the difference between renting points and transfering points. He's asleep right now so I thought I'd ask.

If you rent, the owner of the points is in charge of the reservation. You would get a copy, but the owner could modify or even cancel it without your knowledge.

Once the points you transfer are in your account, you are in charge of them, and you make and control the reservation. Those points can't be banked by you, they have to be used by the end of their use year.

If you are asking because of the thread about owners being responsible for problems incurred by a renter, this would not be an issue in transfer, because the points transfered in become the points of the account transfered to.

just wanted to point out that you CAN bank transfered points.

Just thought I would jump in and ask if there is any rule stopping people from transfering points back and forth from one DVC member to another????

Members may transfer points either into or out of their contract during a Use Year. You cannot transfer both ways in the same Use Year. Originally, the rule was members were allowed one transfer per year period. DVC changed that policy a few years ago to allow multiple transfers - in one direction only - each Use Year.
