Renting golf cart more will cost more than our car payment

Is it really that important? We will be in a partial hookup loop for 10 days.

Thanks!

No, having a golf cart available is fun, but not at all necessary. Rent one for a day or two, just to run around the Fort, and use the buses/boats the rest of the time. It is easy to get around the Fort without a cart.

Having a golf cart makes life easy, but it is not a necessity. If it is bothering you about the cost, I agree with the previous post and rent for a couple of days. We go often enough that it was worth our effort to buy a used cart and fix it up like we wanted it. It has already paid for itself 10 times over.

DH priced it out. Its cheaper for our next trip to trailer down our own golf cart and rent an SUV then it would be to rent a disney golf cart and trailer down the minivan.

but of course we don't own a golf cart ... yet.:rotfl2:

I've never understood paying Disney's prices for golf cart rental at the Fort. We finally gave in and bought our own.

Sure, golf carts are a blast at a campground but what are you doing all day? Hanging around the Fort or at the parks? Hundreds of dollars a week for a golf cart that sits idle almost all day is more than I can afford. There are too many bus stops, sidewalks, and bike paths for me to drop that kind of cash.

Now if they'd let us drive our carts to the parks.....:thumbsup2

:rotfl2:

BTW- I also wanted to mention that depending on when you show up for your cart, and how busy it is, it can take longer to rent a golf cart than to rent a car, and it is more expensive! But, I still rent one on almost every trip. I need to be mobile in order to keep an eye on everything! ;)

The cost is the exact reason we trailer our golf cart to the Fort.

Having just gotten back, we did not find it necessary at all to use a golf cart. It actually felt good to walk off that buffet meal at Trails End. Granted, we were in the 300 loop and could easily walk there but with the buses running so frequently, it really is not necessary at all no matter where you are.
If you're looking for the fun of it, it definitely looked like fun but we had just as much fun getting around on our bikes and we still got the excercise out of that too.
I can see why disney had alot of availability the last couple weeks with those prices.
While on the subject, i think people are starting to push the limit as to exactly what a golf cart IS. there was a guy in our loop and i'm telling you, this vehicle was not a cart, it was more like a mini-jeep. i saw two very similar and they looked like they would tip very easily, very high compared to a golf cart. They also went much faster than a golf cart, didn't appear to be electric either. I just hope disney doesn't start restricting people bringing their own transportation because of this.

If you think you aren't going to use it a lot then I wouldn't spend the $$.

But when are you going? If you are going for Xmas Season and MVMCP then I would recommend renting one for maybe one night (that way it's not so expensive). It is really fun to go through all the loops and see how people have decorated their sites for XMAS. Our group of 17 always sets one night aside to go out and do this. We have a blast doing it.

We have rented one every year we have gone and finally went ahead and bought one this year (we can use it at other places we camp at, at Gator Games and races).

The bus system is pretty quick too.

we had one reserved and cancelled it after we got there. We lucked out, our cabin was at the end of 2600 loop- closest to the bus stop and the pool was across the street. we had planned on needing it after our trip last year, we were in the middle of camping loop 2000 (a lot of walking)

depends on where you end up, I think :wizard:

We just returned and we used our bikes. They were great. The carts looked like fun but I just couldn't justify the $$$.

We go quite a bit and just bought a cart for that reason.I figured that it won't take to long for it to pay for itself ( even after the cost of having the special rack put on the back of the fiver). We look at golf carts like four wheel drive, I would rather have it available and never feel like I need it than to need it and not have it. I realize that with all the Disney transportation you never " NEED " ,,,but it is nice. It's also nice for exploring the campground and looking at the other sites and the decorations people bring. Hey a 10th motgage never hurt anyone:rotfl2: .

The most fun trip we ever took was the trip when we took our bikes. If this is an option for you, do it. If it's not an option for you, your next question is how important money is or how tight of a budget you are on. Golf Carts definitely aren't mandatory. If you have the money though, it is a lot of fun cruising around the campground on them.

Golf Carts are great but not a necessity as previous posters have stated.

On the other hand, my 6yr old DS told me last trip. as we exited Space Mountain at MK, "this ride is dark and hurt my neck, can we go back and ride the Golf Cart now Dad?"
:lmao:

Could have just stayed home and rode the golf cart around the cul-de-sac ........

Well I find them necessary. Of course I'm also Mr. Impatient. I really don't like waiting on buses. Not that I've experienced waiting for a bus at FW, it's just a personal issue.

Therefore we rent a car and a cart. Sure it costs more but this is my annual Disney vacation. The extra money for convenience is worth it to me. I don't need the exercise and am a commando tourer so I'm usually tired and don't want to take the buses or walk all the way to the cabin loops when I get back.

Oh and for some reason it can take forever to pick up your cart, as TCD mentioned, so don't be in a hurry. Mr. Impatient found this most distressing, (not to mention that I spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how I could drive up to the Bike Shack). :sad2:

In 10 years of camping at FW, we've never felt the need to rent a cart. We finally gave in last December and rented a cart for one day. We had a blast with it and might stretch it to 2 or 3 days out of our 15 day trip this December (or maybe not), but it definitely isn't something we HAVE to do. It's a toy to us and nothing more. I am just as happy riding our bikes where we want to go.

I love the idea of golf carts but hate spending money on that. So we always bring our bikes. The bikes workout great except late at night, I personally find the fort to be a little on the dark side. Maybe because I don't have good night vision. Whenever I want to see the movie, that is when I wish I had a cart, but not during the day.
