Renting From Individuals?

I will be renting a home at the end of May for our Disney trip. I enquired about a few houses on VRBO, some were alreadt booked so my info was sent out to all the homeowners of that neighborhood to check for vacancies. I have one that I am interested in. Is there anything I should ask about or know before sending money to an individual? Has anyone ever had a problem renting this way? I really like the house and the owner is very nice. Advice please.

Get a copy of the rental agreement before you exchange any moeny. Read it carefully. Make sure you understand every last detail. Ask if they use a realtor or agent. If not, ask for references. If they balk at your questions, run. Hope this is moderately helpful.

We have rented villas in Orlando from two different owners and two in Spain.I'm sure the vast majority are trustworthy,you have the added bonus the owner is on VRBO,VRBO has a very good reputation.

Apart form not really liking the attitude of the first owner in Orlando (which is irrelevent really I suppose) I've had a good rapport with the other owners and as you have good vibes form the owner I think that helps.
