Renting DVC points

How do I find and rent dvc points? I have rented in the past but I cant remember how to request or rent them. Thanks

There are a couple of different ways to rent.

You can work directly with an owner who's looking to rent their points. Check out the DVC Rent/Trade board here on the DISboards, and be sure to read all of the stickies at the top of the page. They'll explain the rental process, and the rules for posting on that board.

Or, you can work with a broker, like David's Vacation Club Rentals (dvcbyrequest.com). You let them know what dates and resorts you're looking for, and they'll match you up with an owner who can fill your request. They're a bit more expensive than working directly than an owner, but there's some financial protection, you get a detailed rental agreement, and they handle all payments and communication with the owner.

I have rented both directly with an owner I contacted through these boards and with David's renatal, and for the extra money you pay with David's, I think it is worth it. I was able to get the resort I wanted and very little effort on my part. The sooner you can reserve the better. Hope this helps

If you rent from David, you are still renting with an owner. David just acts as a middleman between owners and renters. David usually has owners that own all different DVC resorts, so it might be easier to get what you want. BUT, some locations are hard to rent right at 11 months out because they are newer and the owners are not renting out their points.

Just heads up, If I remember correctly... If you're using your US card, there might be a foreign transaction fee since the company is based out of Canada! So just double check.

I used David's last year, and the transaction was flawless. Will definitely use David's again!

We also used David's last year with a perfect experience! Luckily though we rented just before David's upped the fees for getting a rental at the 11 month mark. While we did save money over renting straight through Disney I think the savings are less than before, especially compared to renting from an owner directly.
