Hello all,

I'm hoping someone can point me to the simplest explanation of how to rent DVC points. When I say I need a simple explanation, I mean I need someone to really "dummy down" this renting points thing for me.

I would love to get a 1br villa 9/25-10/2, but don't want to spend a fortune and have had a few posters recommend renting DVC points. ? for experienced DVC folks - would I still be eligible for free dining if I did this?

TIA for your help!

No you can't get free dining if renting dvc points you have to book a Disney package. I'll break it down as easy as I can

1. Find out how many points you will need for your stay.http://www.wdwinfo.com/resort/dvcpoint.cfm

2. take that total number and multiply by $10 and $12. These are the average low and high numbers that people rent the points for.

3. Go to the rent and trade forum and look for posts from people that have points to rent. Then contact that person. The price and terms are set by the dvc owner. They will make the reservation for you in your name. Most people request full payment within two weeks and no cancellations.

What are the perks of renting points or however its said. Im so confused. Do you save money doing this as opposed to making ressie's through disney?

You will not qualify for free dining (if it is offered).

Note that there are waitlists in place already for a little later in October for some resorts.

The perks of renting - its cheaper (it also allows you to try DVC if you are interested in purchase). The downsides, but its a private transaction between you and the owner. Cancellation policies are much less flexible. There is no daily mousekeeping - its a timeshare rental, you are in the timeshare, not the hotel. With a studio room you have a queen and a pullout (except OKW which has two queens in a studio).

From time to time, Disney has offered the DDP for free with a rack rate room and tickets (package through Disney) at less busy times (mid-Aug through the end of Sept). It has been offered the last two years. Lots of people want to go then so they get the dining plan for free.

It is never going to be free using DVC points. You can pay rack rate for your DVC villa and include the tickets and get the free dining plan, but not on points.

This is a ploy to fill up the resorts when they are not full. Three years ago, FL had a horrid hurricane season. Two years ago, not so bad, but the rest of the Gulf Coast got hit very bad. Last year was a bust because of El Nino. Unless hurricanes and vacancy go hand and hand, it ain't going to happen. And with all the people booking that time frame now on the hunch it might happen, there isn't a lot of vacancy.

However, during the end of Nov and in Dec they offered a bounce back reservation that included free dining for guests staying at that time and making a reservation for the Aug/Sept time frame during their stay in Nov/Dec . In addition, UK guests also got a shot at free dining for the upcoming Aug/Sept period.
