REnting DVC points? Embarrassed to say, I have no clue what this is. can anyone e

I really appreciate all that I am learning right now from what a renter is looking for from a seller and what I can do to have a good transaction.

I am getting ready to list some points that I need to rent by end of March 2012.

I really appreciate all that I am learning right now from what a renter is looking for from a seller and what I can do to have a good transaction.

and does it matter when you rent them / before march? i'm looking for september / october but i'm flexible.

how do you price yours?

Anyone hoping to do this REALLY needs to read about it on the DVC board. Also..to the poster who is mentioning he needs to get rid of points by end of March..you cannot rent points on this board, only through the DVC rental board and there are fairly strict rules about that, so it's importatnt to read up. A sponsor of this board, dvcrequest.com (David's) is well known and has done this for years. He charges, basically $13.00 a point and is the middle man between the owner and renter so there is a layer of protection. You might check with his compnay to learn more, since you don't know how the whole thing works..better to not get ripped off. Please, do NOT rent DVC points from Ebay..many horror stories on that. Remember, as others have said, that yes, you can get a really good deal, but you are not in any way in control of that reservation until you check in. Many rent happily but they learn the ropes before rushiing in.

Not exactly sure what you mean? I would think OKW points are by far the cheapest, or, at least, you get the most for your money?

If you were looking to spend a week at either one, AKL will cost less points for the week.

+1 to this. This thread is making me nervous on behalf of the OP. It's really best to REALLY do your research on points renting before committing your money to it. It is not the same as cash through Disney in a number of ways, and not all people are comfortable with the differences.

I'm op. i'm not going to just do this from any old person on the internet. I can asure you.

But many have used Dave. Not saying I am.

That is not true unless you get a VALUE villa at AKV and there aren't that many of them and they are usually booked quickly by the owners. And it is a smaller room, that's why the points are less. For all other categories, OKW would be cheaper.

I think the person who posted after me is right, I can't say that I am going to list my points here so I can't answer public about them. But you can PM me. I am now going back to edit my post to read that as a first time renter I really do appreciate what I am learning about what renters expect and I appreciate the posts.

Most members won't book a reservation for less than 31 days out. And you would have to pay in full immediately. If you don't pay, they can cancel, but their points have restrictions in how they can be used at 30 days out. Thus, most want to book longer time out.

They can book 11 months out at their home resort and 7 months out at any resort. The owner sets the terms for payment. DVC requires that members use a contract when renting a reservation. (They call it renting points, but points are worthless to someone who doesn't own them.)

If you buy this reservation from the member, they maintain full control of the reservation until the moment you check in. So you can't call to confirm the reservation. You can't call to add a request or the dining plan or Magical Express. Only the member can do that.

And just because a member is "fire selling" their points doesn't mean what you want to reserve is available. Some times of the year it's nearly impossible to get a DVC reservation at less than 7 month out, sometimes 11 months out (less a day - members are on the phone making reservations when Member Services opens for the day at 9AM ET at 11 months out).

Just because you see something available on the Disney website for cash doesn't mean you can find it available for points. There are different inventories for cash through Disney and DVC points stays.
