Renting car seats?

We are flying into MCO on Thursday and I was wondering if there was any place to rent carseats from? Maybe one of the car rental companies? We will mostly be using shuttles while we are there but will be using a private car at times also. I don't really want to take my sons car seat if we could rent one somewhere. Thanks.

I would suggest taking your own car seat. The start of a vacation is not the time to be figuring out how to use and install a different car seat.

Thank you for that insight, but did it ever occur to you that there might be a member of my family who regularly checks the installation of different types of carseats as part of their job? ;)

At any rate, if anyone knows of anywhere to rent carseats I am very interested. :goodvibes

Sorry you took my advice the wrong way but that used to be my job also. Many others will read this post for their own trip. Most people do not use car seats correctly and the start of a vacation is not the time to learn how to use it correctly.

You can rent one from the car rental agencies - between $8 and $10 per day IIRC. However they won't guarantee that one will be available that fits your needs.

We rented a carseat for my dd once and only once and it was in such horrible condition we used it to drive straight to the wallmart and buy a new carseat. While others have had better experiences I never took that chance again.

You said "private car". How are you defining that? Private, as in not for hire (like visiting Aunt Betsy who lives in Lakeland), or private, as in not sharing with anyone, like a limo or car service?

Rental cars companies rent seats to go in the cars they rent out. They do not rent them to people who are not also renting a vehicle. Nursery equipment rental companies, like A Baby's Best Friend, or Baby's Away, will rent to anyone (including Aunt Betsy), and will deliver the seat to your hotel/home. If you are taking a car service or limo from the airport to your resort, they *should* be able to provide a carseat for your use whilst in the car, as long as you make it a point to reserve ahead, and be specific about what size you need.

If you need to rent a seat, consider costs carefully; the rental often ends up costing as much as the price of a lightweight travel seat (such as a Touriva, which will run about $45 at Wal-Mart.)

I had a similar experience as TJ. Yuck! The next time we bought a good but cheap car seat for our travel seat. We have used it for a few trips and was paid for only after not renting from the car rental for one trip!
