Renting car at WDW returning at Port Canaveral

Hi all!

I've never rented a car at WDW. This trip 8/31-9/6 on property will make my 3rd trip. I'm doing split stay, 2 nights at SSR and 4 nights at AKL, then Saturday 9/6 I am catching DCL at Port Canaveral. Has anyone had experience with this pick up and drop off? I would like to pick up on Tuesday 9/2 on WDW property. I'm ok with using SSR transportation but what I hear about AKL transportation freaks me out and I think it's possible that it's worth it to rent a car. Does anyone have experience with both renting cars and using AKL transport? Is it worth the money?
Lastly, I'm having a hard time finding a site that allows me to enter in the pickup as WDW and drop off at Port Canaveral. HELP:))) TIA! Any advice is very appreciated.

Many people rent a car at WDW and drop it off at port....they don't want to pay parking fees. They usually return to the car rental office and have a rental to get them back to the airport, or whatever destination. So, I'm not sure why you're having so much trouble doing a one way rental. I'll look and see how I fare doing the same thing.
As far as AKL transportation goes....I've stayed there multiple times. Never had an issue with buses. The buses here are really no better, no worse than other resorts. You will always see bad reports about transportation...people seldom come along to say how well it worked, or that while not perfect, it was fine. So, completely up to you as to what you do.

I just did a search at Alamo...pretty much the only on-site company. They are at the Dolphin. It is about $200 to pick up at the Dolphin on 9/2, and drop it in port on 9/6.
You might want to look at Budget as well...they are right across the street in DTD....close to SSR. It's easily walkable.

Thank you for your response. Yeah, I don't Kano what the deal was with my search- but when I try to enter renting on property and dropping off at port Canaveral and taking the shuttle over to DCL it kicks it back out. So wierd. I'm completely on the fence, do I fancy driving while on vacation... Not so much. So It is good to be reminded that the busses operate like other resorts. I know I shouldn't hone in on negative comments but I always hear "how far" AKL is and it just had me worried.

Just saw your other response- thank you so much:) at least it is an option then should we choose that route.

We also have not had problems with AKL transportation. We did have the cruise line pick us up from AKL to go to the port as I am paranoid about returning a car and then getting to the ship. We are however picking up a car at Port Canaveral and returning to WDW with it. We are using Avis and the drop off is a hotel near DTD. It is just a short walk. We are paying $47 for the day as we only need it for a few hours.

What a great deal to pick it up at port:)
Thank you for your input on the transport at AKL!

What sites are you trying on? I found Travelocity wouldn't let me search one way rentals. I had to go to the rental companies themselves.

National and Alamo are both on site at the car care center.

I tried National and input pickup at WDW and it kept kicking me out when I tried to use return at Cape Canaveral/ or even port canaveral.

I couldn't do it on Priceline either.

Odd

For Alamo, try typing in Orlando. You should see the Car Care Center, Dolphin/Swan, and Shades of Green (among your choices). For the port side, use Cape Canaveral.

For National, you can click on the location guide link and select Florida and Orlando to see the choices. I just tried on National's site. I used Orlando for the pickup location and Port Canaveral for the dropoff location. It came back with choices for Orlando (including the ones above) and automatically picked Cape Canaveral for the dropoff.

For some of the others (like Budget), Port Canaveral works.

Ok, I'll try that in the morning. The sites for both Alamo and National are down

Here are your location codes for onsite pickup using National (I think Alamo uses the same codes): Dolphin (ORLR13) Car Care Center (ORLR02) Shades of Green (ORLR12) For dropoff: Cape Canaveral (MLBN01)

Thank you for that!

I've found a car for $222 total for 6 days! Thanks everyone for all your help! Much appreciated!
