Renting car at WDW rather than airport

We're staying at Yacht Club in March and we're not renting a car. It's our first time going carless but DH said that if we really miss a car we could always rent one after a few days. I know we can rent at the Dolphin. How does that compare on cost with an airport rental?

There's also the Car Care Center (just south of MK parking). Alamo & National are based there. Go online and price pickup at Dolphin/CCC vs. MCO.

It will be very hard to make a comparison since renting in advance is almost always much cheaper than renting on a moment's notice. It can be very expensive to just walk up to a car rental counter, and rent a car.

That's what I suspected. I probably wouldn't just walk up though, I would get online and book something for same day or the next day.

For our trip at the end of this month, it's DOUBLE the cost to rent from Alamo at the Car Care center or the Dolphin, compared to the cost to rent from them at the airport.:scared1:

We did a last minute add at the Dolphin (Dec 2011) and it wasn't too $$. But, I think we may have just gotten lucky. It also may depend on the type of car you're looking for. If anything, you could always book a car in advance and then cancel it ahead of time if you don't think you'll use it.

There are other options other than Alamo. Avis is located at the Hilton across the street from DTD - we have used them several times. There is a Dollar at the Wyndham Buena Vista Resort which is also across from DTD.

Depends. You would have to price both out to see but I find the price of SUV's are actually cheaper at WDW than at the airport. All else, in my experience, is cheaper at the airport.

But that's not always so. Car rentals are so hard to figure out in theory; actual experience varies tremendously.

Well I think I got a good deal. :cool1: I priced renting at the Dolphin and am paying $267 for a pickup on Friday March 1st and drop off Saturday, March 9th. It's a Toyota Corolla. At the airport it was about double.

We have rented here many times and gtten some great rates. You just take a bus to DTD and walk across the street. Almost everytime it has been pick up here and drop at MCO.

I would suggest that maybe you make a couple reservations in advance, either here or at Alamo. Look for rates that you like (or could live with)

You can always cancel if you decide you don't need a car.
