Renting Cabanas?

So in the most recent Disney Files magazine I got yesterday, I read a little blurb about a 20% discount DVC members get if they wanted to rent a pool-side cabana at The Contemporary. So, I called the number listed and attempted to make a reservation to rent one. But, the CM told me that I couldn't do that because I wasn't staying at BLT or CR.

It doesn't say that you have to be staying at either of those resorts to use this perk in the article? Maybe that is just understood? The CM was kinda snippy and said she had never heard of Disney Files and to just call DVC.

Just curious if anyone knew anything about this? That's fine if we can't....just kinda curious if anyone had any experience! Thanks!

Are the cabanas at the main pool or the Bay Cove Pool? I know there's no pool hopping allowed at Bay Cove so that would explain why a non-guest couldn't reserve there.

Even if it is the main pool, pool hopping always comes with stating that it's only permitted when not at capacity and you need to check-in at the front desk. So again it sort of makes sense that they wouldn't let you rent a cabana if you're counting on the ability to pool hop in order to utilize it.

Hmmmm...we have cabanas rented at VGC today through Sunday. I will have to ask if there is a DVC discount. Here's hoping!

Considering you cannot pool hop to Contemporary/BLT, AKV or BCV, it would make sense that any pool related perk, like renting pool side cabanas, to individuals not staying at the resort would be prohibited.

The pool hopping info on the members site just list the akv/akl, BC/YC, BLT pool as prohibited you can still hop to the Contemporary.

Denise is correct, however they may define pool hopping as the ability to enjoy the pools at other resorts, but not extend it to renting the cabanas. It might be that the cabanas themselves have restrictions that state renters must be staying at the resort.

I don't know about the cabanas at CR, but I know when we stayed at the GF for our honeymoon, you had to be staying at the resort to rent them. It would make sense that rule would apply to any resort that had cabanas since there are just a couple at each resort.

I am glad you mentioned this though - I've been dying to do a cabana again but DH thinks it's too much money now - it was quite a bit cheaper 3 years ago. With 20% off maybe I can convince him to do one this spring when we are there for our 4th anniversary!
