Renting and riding a bike to Disneyland?

I am considering taking a different approach to get to the parks when I am down there later this month. If memory serves, I recall seeing a bike rental kiosk near the Anaheim Convention Center when I was there in 2013 for the D23 Expo. Is this true or am I imagining things? If I'm not, has anybody rented these things before? I am staying for 2 weeks, can they be rented for that long? If so, how much?

I am staying at the Super 8 Motel on Katella Avenue and certainly am within walking distance and have made that walk on trips prior. It isn't a terrible problem but I figure on a two week trip, it will get tiring to wake up and walk there and then walk back at closing after long days in the parks. Which is why I figure renting a bike would be an awesome and quicker alternative. Another thing that is a primary concern is a place to park and lock the bike when at the parks for the day. I did some researching and learned apparently there are bike racks on the Downtown Disney side of the resort... which in reality, couldn't be further away from where I am riding from. You'd think there are bike racks in the first place, they'd at least have them near the transportation zone on the Harbor Boulevard side of the Esplanade... maybe they do? I don't know.

Can anybody shed some light on this subject? I'd really love the convenience of riding to and from the park without it being too much hassle. :moped:

I've seen bike racks on the Harbor side, in the area of the ART kiosk, along the fencing backing up to like Space Mountain.

OK, I just used google maps and zoomed in and you can see the bike rack between the turn arounds, beside the kiosk.

Awesome! Good to know!

Bump. Do any locals have any info about the bike rental kiosks and the locations of them that'd be closest to my hotel?

Based on a quick Google search, it appears that the Anaheim bike share program ended earlier this year.

I can confirm this. I did a bit of research. The bike share pilot failed and was shuttered. Anaheim has a long term plan to improve their transportation infrastructure that includes miles of continuous bike paths, but don't look for any of that to happen any time soon.

Since you will be there for 2 weeks it might make sense to buy a lower end bike from Target on Harbor. Probably the same or less $ than renting for 10+ days. Just a thought.

I love the idea of biking to the parks. :thumbsup2

I like this idea too! If it was me I would check out craigslist or submit my own ad before I go explaining what I am looking for in a 2nd hand bike. Its worth a shot! We recycle bikes and DH would love to help someone out in this situation.

Okay, I'll try looking into other options. So to be sure, there's no bike rentals anywhere around Disney anymore? Why is their Bike Nation website still live then? It's odd.

But it hasn't been updated since 2013. :guilty:
Good luck, Elias! Let us know how it works out.

Worst case scenario is that I just walk over, as always. But on a two week stay... I'd really like to cut back on that and especially make the commute to and from the parks a bit speedier.

Try calling local places that do daily rentals and see if they have a weekly rate. Try calling local bike shops and see if they will do a weekly rental. You can always use public transportation to pick up and drop off the bike.
