Renting a Wheelchair

Hi, I just ended up having emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder on Monday and my trip is in 2 weeks!!! I have never rented a wheelchair at Disney before, but I know I will probably need one as I wont be 100% when my trip comes. Does anyone know if it costs money to rent a wheel chair there, and have any advice on using them in the parks. Thanks for any help.

I am in the same boat. I had foot surgery at the end of JUne. My foot has gotten better but I have a feeling that the walking at DW is going to bring up some problems.

I am 2 weeks out and just got into a sneaker. I will be checking with my doctor about getting in some walking before the trip but dh is already talking about renting a wheelchair for at least Epcot.

I know I don't look disabled so I will probably get some strange looks and I don't know how I will feel about that.

Just had mine out on Wednesday - welcome to the club! If you are old enough (18+) you might want to look into renting an ECV - that way you won't have to rely on anyone pushing you to get around.

If you had laproscopic surgery, get up and walk around as much as possible if you have the extra gas in your chest cavity - I'm feeling a bit better now, but the first 3 days I probably didn't walk enough and the gas is still trapped.

Please ask the following questions. Here are the suggested answers to go with them.

1. Are you disabled (even temporarily)? Yes.

2. Do the people you are traveling with, such as your family, know you are disabled? Yes.

3. Do you expect to meet anyone you know during this trip who may not know you are disabled. Probably No!

4. Do you expect to meet a bunch of people who you will probably never meet again in your life? Probably yes!

5. Is there any reason at all that you should care what these people think about you? Absolutely No!!

6. Will using a wheelchair or ECV make for a better vacation for you and your family? Absolutely YES!
