Renting a car after you've been on property for a few days

Does anyone know if we could conveniently rent a car for the second half of our trip after the first half is over? We would like to do the Magical Express from the airport. We don't really need a car for the Disney portion of our trip, however, we have a few extra days after that and are considering taking a mini road trip to the beach.
Can you rent a car from somewhere on property?
Do you know if the Magical Express will take you back to the airport if you've had a lapse in your stay? Probably not.
If not, then I wonder if we could return the car at the airport or if we would need to return the car on property and THEN get a ride to the airport via a taxi or towncar. Anyone know?

you can rent from either National or Alamo on Disney's property. There are two locations, one at the Dolphin (or is it the Swan?) and one at the car care center (near MK) and you would be able to return it to the rental location at the airport. I don't know about returning it the the location in DW, then taking the Magical Express back to the airport. It seems it would just be easier to return right at MCO. HTH

Thanks, my first preference would certainly be to rent on property and leave the car at the airport. Now, to see what they have! Thank you so much!
